Cowboys could wait to sign Atogwe

Shouldn't Cowboys show Sharper some love?

The New Orleans Saints haven't made safety Darren Sharper feel loved since the Super Bowl.

"If the love was right, that would have been taken care of," Sharper told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, referring to his free agency. The love would have been reciprocated."

Sharper was one of the NFL's best bargains last season, when he got paid $1.7 million and picked off nine passes during an All-Pro campaign. Now the 34-year-old safety wants a two- or three-year deal for significantly more money.

Shouldn't the Cowboys at least consider using their one big salary slot with the Final Eight free agency rules on Sharper?

Jerry Jones has made no secret that he wants more playmaking from his safeties. Sharper is one of the premier playmaking safeties in NFL history. He has 63 career picks, which leads all active players. He has 11 touchdown returns, more than anybody but Hall of Famer Rod Woodson. His 376 interception return yards last season, when he had three touchdowns, set an NFL record.

The Cowboys value Ken Hamlin because of his savvy and communication skills. They wouldn't lose any of that with Sharper, but they would address the defense's turnover deficiency.

That comment about Sharper and Chicago doesn't make much sense to me...he'd be a nice fit in our 3-4...but won't fit in with the Bears? Strange.

Sharper would be a great addition but only if he's willing to play for a 1-year deal for now. We'd have to really have a contingency plan in place for next season too, since Sharper is 34. He's in great shape both football-wise and injury-wise for 34 though. Kind of like Ray Lewis' ability to keep playing at the same high level.

Atogwe's shoulder and injury history are kind of sketch, comparatively.

Put me officially on the Darren Sharper bandwagon. With Sharper roving free, it would allow Sensabaugh to make more plays closer to the line of scrimmage. Plus, I'm a homer for players from the state of Virginia since that's where I'm from.

Or for a more applicable example for Cowboy fans. Keith Brooking.

Yep, good comparison.

I might not be an NFL GM, but this one seems like a no-brainer. Small knee scope and if that's all he got, that means you know he was playing hurt for probably the latter part of last year and definitely the playoffs, and he was still out there doing his thing.

This needs it's own thread. I think I'll hijack off Fuzzy and start one.

Agreed, lol. My main concern is his age though. And what if he doesn't want a 1 year contract? Would you feel comfortable with signing him to a 2 or 3 year contract? And it also depends on the money he demands. No more then 4 Mil IMO.

See me in the Darren Sharper thread... I'll quote you over there.

Slate and Rampage, I tend to agree with you guys the majority of the time with football and with conflicts like this thread. Anyone that takes personal shots at somebody on a FORUM has serious, underlying issues. That's what I feel sorry about, when people respond with personal criticisms.
Hard ons for other men wasn't personal? Or did you just talk out of both sides of your mouth?

Hey I didn't say it, and I also didn't start taking the personal shots. But you're right, I shouldn't stoop down to your level.

Actually I don't questions people's sexuality on the Internet. Or in person for that matter.

I never said I was. Again, sorry if I make you feel threatened or inadequate. Your psychoanalysis is cute though if without merit. Can we talk about Atogwe instead of me though?

Anyone know of his injury history off hand?

He missed 4 games this year. Played and started all 16 in 06/07/08 and missed 4 in his rookie year.
No major cause for concern imo, missed 8 out of a possible 80.

I have no issue with anyone liking Atogwe better. I liked Atogwe before anyone on here. I wanted him in the Draft, and can prove it.

Why can't that simply be said? Or that he's better? No, it has to be 4 times better. Ridiculous.

take things out of context much?

oh i get it, you want people to say things the way you want it said

Oh look, more over reactions. I never would have guessed it.

I wouldn't want Sharper to be honest. he had a record setting season(which means his numbers will be down next season), is soon to be 35 and just had knee surgery. great player no doubt but i'd rather go with Atogwe.

Only homers are allowed the use of hyperbole. Don't you forget it.
Tell that to Romo 2 Austin, perhaps the biggest homer on the forum. Every time he uses hyperbole he gets run down.

Damn, yet another victim theory shot to hell by the truth.
