Henry Melton 6-3 295 27 DT 3-tech

Tyrone Crawford 6-4 284 24 SDE or 3-tech
Jeremy Mincey 6-4 265 30 SDE or 3-tech
George Selvie 6-4 270 27 WDE or SDE
Ben Bass 6-5 294 24 DT 3-tech or SDE
Nick Hayden 6-4 301 28 DT 1-tech
Frank Kearse 6-5 310 25 DT 1-tech
Terrell McClain 6-2 293 25 DT 1-tech

Okpalaugo, Tristan 6-4 260 24 WDE
Rayford, Caesar 6-7 267 28 WDE or SDE
Spears, Quinton 6-4 230 25 WDE

Im picky.I say we still need Dline mainly passrushers. Put 4 passrushers up front and you have yourself a defense. I say we will need to draft Dline with our top two picks. One for DE and another SDE or DT. We can draft a DT 1 tech in the later rounds.

Even with Melton, I think we still have too. The only concession I would make is maybe a linebacker or safety in rnd 3. Our first 2 picks need to be dline. Need matching BPA

Our first three picks need to be starters, with BPA being the determining factor.

I wonder just for a just incase measures do we still draft a 3 Tech but I highly doubt donald last to our pick but we may go with Timmy Jernigan but big question is if Jernigan, dee ford and anthony barr are there starring you in the face and nobody wants to trade down to your slot who do you pick and why?

Barr! Ford, Jernigan. Outside pass rush is still sorely lacking and takes precedent. Even if they are primarily nickel rushers their rookie season as they get bigger (Ford/Barr). Jernigan tends to give ground before making his pass rush move and wouldn't be an ideal fit in my opinion. Melton would fit the 3 tech so Jernigan would be "wasted" as a 1st round 1 tech. If we go that direction, I would prefer Nix. Edge rushers are sorely needed on this D along with an adequate 1 to push the pocket (hopefully someone rises above the pack in camp).

No team should ever go into a draft with the mentality that it has to pick a certain position in the first, much less the first three rounds.

This cannot be repeated enough. We should feel secure that we can choose freely without regard to finding that instant starter.

But, there should also never be the idea that the "roster is set" and you only have room for a few players and you then decide to look at STers. That gets you 2009.

sshhhh.... that is not what TRS meant at all

the roster is of course "set", this just gives us options to pick backups at any position we want in the draft

I don't see a lot of pass rush on this list, we still need DE help.

Just don't see us going into the season with Crawford and Selvie as our edge rushers.

I have a feeling that we look at a lot of smaller edge types.

You get a bunch of smaller rushers as reserves, they can come in and play fast against a tired OL.

There are some good ones that will not cost a pick in premium rounds:

Florida OLB Ronald Powell (looks like Bruce Irvin)
Colorado State OLB Shaquil Barrett (watch him against Alabama; whipped Kouandijo)
USC OLB Devon Kennard (yes, Derek Kennard's son)
USC OLB Morgan Breslin (combine snub, should be motivated)

McClay was talking about getting speed. Well, get it then.

I think you'll find that on this team Hayden is more than camp fodder and I'm not sure I'd call Melton a "Blue Chipper".

At least 2 good players short. Maybe we get lucky adding someone late in free agency. Additionally, we weed to use at least one 1st or 2nd on DL in the upcoming draft.

Losing Hatcher + Ware and adding only Melton is still a net loss from a DL that was poor to begin with. Cant lose sight of that...

Have to see Crawford and Bass show something before we can really call these 2 contributors...

Okay we can officially add Melton to the mix. So Selvie, Crawford, Bass and Melton right now and I forget the others except Hayden.

Melton is the Pro Bowl vet, now they need the blue-chip rookie and they might have the makings of a solid d-line if Bass and Crawford can show some ability.

Yeah, I thought they might have a plan. I'm satisfied Bass and Crawford can be at least avg DL. I think both may be better. I'd switch Selvie to the weak side and put Crawford and/or Bass on the strong side. I think both of them can play DT and DE. Crawford looks stronger and Bass looks quicker but small sample size so we need a lot more data. I still want a pass rusher. Or two.

This is exactly what I was thinking!

If they can find that blue-chip DT/DE in the draft I would be ecstatic. Brent would be a solid DT in this scheme but who knows if the Cowboys even want him back.

Barr is roughly the same size as Ware was coming out of college and has coincidentally drawn Ware comparisons. He will need to add more bulk to be an every down pass rusher, but he can still be a situational pass rusher on the line and also play OLB in certain packages. I think it is a no brainier to draft him if he is there, but I don't want the team going into the draft feeling that we have to target a certain position.

Yeah, with all of the players we brought in to play DL last year, Hayden led that unit in defensive snaps. Hopefully we can find someone better in the draft, but I think he has a roster spot locked up as a rotation guy even if we do.
