My prediction.......Crawford never reaches full potential due to injury.

Rayford and Bass will be a pleasant surprise. Selvie gets better and Melton is Tank Johnson redux. JMO/best guess of course.

Not sold on Rayford, but I agree on Bass and Selvie.
I think Selvie is underrated on this board. He had 7 sacks and 45 tackles last season. That is not bad production from the SDE. In 9 years, Tony Tolbert had only 3 seasons where he had more than 7 sacks (7.5, 8.5. and 12), and he is pretty well thought of around here. Melton is still a question mark to me.

Rayford is going to have to have a heck of a camp to make the team because the Cowboys get their 2015 7th round pick back if he doesn't make the roster (I think.) He was unimpressive last season and did not live up to the hype.

No, he just had to be on the 2013 roster for a certain number of games. I think he hit that number and the Cowboys owe them the pick.

Unpopular opinion but I'm actually comfortable with the DL because I think they will take 2 in the first 3 rounds of the draft and will resign Spencer. I could also see them getting a bargain at the end of FA also when a vet needs a home and a make-good one year deal. It seems clear they are going to the wave attack Marinelli style instead of trying to build around a star like Ware.

SDE - If Spencer resigns (which I think is likely) even if he missed early games I think you are OK with him and Crawford at SDE.

1 Tech - The 1 is a rotation of McClain, Hayden and an early pick. Hayden was actually OK last year considering he played too much, as a reserve he will be fine. With 3 guys rotating in Marinelli's scheme they should be OK at this position.

3 Tech - Melton should be healthy, motivated and happy to be reunited with Marinelli. Bass looked good in the preseason last year and if he only has to be a backup to Melton, the position should be OK.

WDE - A first rounder like Barr or Ford rotating with Selvie and Mincy.

Replace Spencer with Ayers and I'am happy

Wait. There was Caesar Rayford hype?

He had 5 sacks for the Colts in the '13 preseason, came over from the Arena League where he had 22.5 sacks in three years; lot of upset Colt fans when the trade happened. So much for the "diamond in the rough" story. Congrats to the Colts on trading high.

No, he just had to be on the 2013 roster for a certain number of games. I think he hit that number and the Cowboys owe them the pick.

Looked it up and you are correct. Had to be on roster 5 weeks. I still think he doesn't make the final 53 though. We've already cut him once (nobody picked him up off waivers though and we re-signed him to practice squad.)

He was "Broadusized" as a great pickup.

I don't think Broaddus has ever done one of those write ups after somebody signs off that street that does not make them look like a Pro Bowler.

We could sign Bozo The Clown and he would write the following:

The Scout’s Eye goes into the film room to take a closer look at Bozo T. Clown, the newest member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Clown comes to the Cowboys fresh from retirement from WGN television in 2001. Clown will wear #00 and most likely see action tormenting Rowdy on the sidelines but should also contribute on special teams.

On WGN television, he played your typical painted performer with children, but there were times where he did put his hand on the ground in simulated flag football games with midget perfomers. The times that I did observe him rush against midget performers, it was usually from the right side. Not as explosive as what you would see from a football player but can be slippery getting past interference. Will match power with some counter moves, especially against performers with a lower center of gravity.

Tries to attack the edge and work his way around the corner. Doesn’t have a closing burst to finish the play but can get there if he does not trip over his oversized shoes, which may not be his fault. Plays with nice desire and effort.

Can get in position, will work his hands inside, especially to control his red nose and squeak it. Looks more mobile in space doing this than you would think. Did not see any huge problems or mistakes with his assignments. Plays with good awareness.

I think bass wil be a pleasant surprise to most ppl. I think Crawford will play well. I expect 6-8 sacks from selvie. Same from Melton. Hopefully we can add a couple more guys theough the draft and plug a few holes defensively. At least were not overpaying guys. Statistically I think we will be better in 2014. I don't think we've got any worse this offseason.

Agreed on Selvie. That's why I kinda left him unsung............. ;)

Also agree on Selvie; he is the only player coming back health and actually produced when given the opportunity.

I do not, however, have confidence in anyone else on the d-line -- including Melton. All the current d-line players (except Selvie) Dallas is counting on have question marks about their health or reliability. Some show promise but can't stay on the field while others have produced (Brent) but are unreliable.

I am counting on Dallas to come away with a few impact d-linemen in May.

Is Spencer comes back he'll start on PUP.

Definitely a possibility. I mentioned that in the original post, even if Spencer misses the first four games of the season you can still play Crawford and Mincy (and possibly a draft choice) at SDE until Spencer is ready.

I think it makes the most sense for Spencer to come back to Dallas because he knows the defense and coaches. It makes sense for Dallas because they need DEs who can rush the passer. The money will talk at the end of the day but I do think Spencer is a Cowboy in 2014.
