Yeah, with all of the players we brought in to play DL last year, Hayden led that unit in defensive snaps. Hopefully we can find someone better in the draft, but I think he has a roster spot locked up as a rotation guy even if we do.

Defensive snaps:

1,116 – Brandon Carr
1,088 – Orlando Scandrick
1,015 – Barry Church
874 – Bruce Carter
821 - Nick Hayden
747 – Jason Hatcher
744 – George Selvie
702 – Sean Lee
628 - DeMarcus Ware
594 - Jeff Heath
515 - J.J. Wilcox
506 – Morris Claiborne
501 – Kyle Wilber
380 – Ernie Sims
275 – Jarius Wynn
254 - Drake Nevis
207 – DeVonte Holloman
197 – Justin Durant
178 – B.W. Webb
163 – Will Allen
153 – Everette Brown
144 – Caesar Rayford
117 – Corvey Irvin
81 – Sterling Moore
72 - Edgar Jones
63 – Cameron Lawrence
49 – David Carter
46 – Jason Vega
45 – Jerome Long
38 – Landon Cohen
34 – Anthony Spencer
34 – Frank Kearse
24 – Kyle Bosworth
22 – Micah Pellerin
20 – Everett Dawkins
20 – Martez Wilson
16 – Jakar Hamilton
15 – Marvin Austin
8 – Danny McCray
6 – Orie Lemon
3 – Dez Bryant

Wow at the last 15 guys on that list(excluding Dez of course)

He was 6'5 255 at the combine and can definitely still add some weight. He's a legit edge rusher, would be running to the podium if he somehow dropped to us.

My thoughts exactly. Guys with that type of upside/athleticism at that position just don't come around at 16 very often. Somewhat similar of a prospect to Dion Jordan, but actually far more accomplished as a rusher in his 2 short years playing D in college. And Jordan went #3 overall.

Henry Melton 6-3 295 27 DT 3-tech

Tyrone Crawford 6-4 284 24 SDE or 3-tech
Jeremy Mincey 6-4 265 30 SDE or 3-tech
George Selvie 6-4 270 27 WDE or SDE
Ben Bass 6-5 294 24 DT 3-tech or SDE
Nick Hayden 6-4 301 28 DT 1-tech
Frank Kearse 6-5 310 25 DT 1-tech
Terrell McClain 6-2 293 25 DT 1-tech

Okpalaugo, Tristan 6-4 260 24 WDE
Rayford, Caesar 6-7 267 28 WDE or SDE
Spears, Quinton 6-4 230 25 WDE

Based on this, you would have to think Dallas sees WDE as the weakest link. Only one of their known commodities (Selvie) is even suited for it, and it would be hard to see the Cowboys counting on Okpalaugo, Rayford and Spears for anything other than a possible surprise.

Now, Dallas really needs to try to upgrade every spot but 3-tech, but could at least view Crawford, Selvie, Mincey and even Bass as competition to start at RDE and have Hayden returning at 1-tech, with competition coming from McClain. That lineup isn't exactly thrilling, but Dallas at least has its bases covered if it only gets a WDE.

Another option to consider is moving Wilber back to WDE, Carter to SAM, Holloman at WILL.

He looks like he is best fit for SAM, though. But he could be a #3 WDE behind Selvie and Barr/Ford/another draft pick, while still getting most of his snaps at SAM.

Carter taking on more blocks is not the answer.

Nasty line still.

Of the bunch, I think Melton, Selvie and Crawford are the only ones worth a damn.

We need a starting DE, starting 1T, and backups at 3T and DE still, IMO.

I think Mincey and Bass could be good rotational guys as well.

Melton is the Pro Bowl vet, now they need the blue-chip rookie and they might have the makings of a solid d-line if Bass and Crawford can show some ability.

Unpopular opinion but I'm actually comfortable with the DL because I think they will take 2 in the first 3 rounds of the draft and will resign Spencer. I could also see them getting a bargain at the end of FA also when a vet needs a home and a make-good one year deal. It seems clear they are going to the wave attack Marinelli style instead of trying to build around a star like Ware.

SDE - If Spencer resigns (which I think is likely) even if he missed early games I think you are OK with him and Crawford at SDE.

1 Tech - The 1 is a rotation of McClain, Hayden and an early pick. Hayden was actually OK last year considering he played too much, as a reserve he will be fine. With 3 guys rotating in Marinelli's scheme they should be OK at this position.

3 Tech - Melton should be healthy, motivated and happy to be reunited with Marinelli. Bass looked good in the preseason last year and if he only has to be a backup to Melton, the position should be OK.

WDE - A first rounder like Barr or Ford rotating with Selvie and Mincy.

Would be thrilled with Jernigan. Would be fine with two D lineman and one O lineman with first three picks. I would prefer it actually. BTW, is Anthony Barr another potential Jason Taylor? Have hard time figuring out what he is and what his potential is. I hear folks saying OLB in 4-3 but feel he is more rusher/hybrid.

What do you guys think of drafting ealy, and micheal sam? Mony would be first and Sam would be 3-4 round. Jernigan In the 2nd?

Outside of who we draft Crawford is going to be the most important man in this line.

My prediction.......Crawford never reaches full potential due to injury.

Rayford and Bass will be a pleasant surprise. Selvie gets better and Melton is Tank Johnson redux. JMO/best guess of course.

I don't see a lot of pass rush on this list, we still need DE help.

Just don't see us going into the season with Crawford and Selvie as our edge rushers.

I don't see allot on that list either but I'm willing to entertain the thought or hope that Crawford can add something that Ware couldn't add last year. I think it was underestimated how much that shoulder surgery and bad elbow might have effected Ware last year. I just don't think he ever had the strength back in it in the time he had to get ready and if he did it definitely wore down. Crawford hasn't proven to me that he can't bring a pass rush and has the same arm length which is the best indicator for DE's but I dont expect him to be Ware before the injury either. They most likely have more rush off the edge than they had last year by default.
