Let's see, Pat Watkins turned into Superman last night and that (combined with the injuries and poor rookie play) saved his job.

I hope he plays smarter. I still don't like him at safety. He doesn't make any plays in the games that count. He did return that blocked FG for a TD against the Vikings in 2007. That is about it.

Watkins was a 15 yard penalty machine last year on special teams (see the first Eagles game).

I'm disappointed he's not gone and wasn't replaced.

Cory Proctor lives for now, but we'll see. He can't anchor. Why is he still here? I don't get it. Everyone knows it but Dallas. I'm hoping he's the next James Marten.

Courtney Brown is gone.

Pat McQuistan survives by default. He gets knocked off balance too easy and ends up on the ground. He's in Cory Proctor territory, and he couldn't beat out the master himself. He shouldn't be on this team.

Isaiah Stanback is gone.

The two guys that need cut the most are still here, imo. It's the two guys on the offensive line.

Proctor and McQuistan are very, very poor football players, imo.

Why are they stilll here? Special teams helps McQuistan, but does anyone think he could block the Giants, Eagles, or Commanders?

I don't, and I know Proctor about got Romo killed multiple times last year.

There has to be two players on the waiver wire better than these two guys, because these two guys are down right terrible.

It sounds mean, but I'm just going by what I"ve seen out of them on the football field.

I'd be surprised if McQuistan and Proctor are still around by week 6. McQuistan was getting beaten and pushed around by Minnesota's backup strong side DE! Proctor has to be one of the worst players on any NFL team's final roster.

We're OK at QB, WR, OLB, and DE as well.

We really need to worry about any injuries on the OL, DT, or ILB. I don't have much faith in any of the backups at these positions.

I'm also worried about the CB position. We have a very large dropoff between the #3 and #4 positions.

Allan Ball would be 4th CB. He's a pretty good player in that spot, and he's got the confidence of his teammates.

Joe Berger made it with the Dolphins and he was behind Procter last season.

Any wr we draft next year would most likely be the #3 wr even as a 1st round pick most wr struggle there 1st year some exception Bowe did well on a bad team Colston for NO but he was a 7th round pick most guys take about 2-3 years to really take off other WR that tend to do alright is high draft picks but they are on teams picking in the top 10 generally and are starting by default and get the reps need to catch a ton of passes but there teams generally still do not do well in the win columns
Yea, guys like Eddie Royal and Deshawn jackson did really bad last year didn't they? Nonesense!

Maybe we should have kept Joe Berger instead of Proctor.

Bright can't play center.

Keeping Proctor makes sense at this point. I think he is on the roster until Preston is up to speed on the play book and can make all the calls that they need the C to make. If there were an injury next sunday to our starting C at least proctor knows the play book so they don't have to scale it back and they can provide help with our G on the blocking schemes. I would think that when Preston is ready to go full speed, Proctor will be cut.

So loaded talentwise that we kept a guy we just claimed off waivers, Preston....

I think this is the least talent through the botom of the roster we have had in a while...

What's it matter if the guy was just released.

Do you really expect 100% of the players who are cut today to stay unemployed?

Bottom line, no team has stars backing up stars. Every team has depth issues on some level.

Lasted I looked the Broncos also missed the playoffs Jackson made it in thank goodness to the clown show Cowboy team last year and yes Jackson was solid wr last year more than 2 tds would be nice from him and I expect this year for him to be even better if he matured and does not fumble the ball by celebrating before he gets in the endzone (sorry that was pretty funy from him) :laugh2:

Does anyone know when Proctor's salary has to be guaranteed?

I am surprised they arent going to put Crosslin on the PS, especially given Anderson's injury issues.

I also thought they might try to put Bright on the PS.

Maybe they aren't as sure of Preston yet. Proctor is a marginal OL. He obviously isn't as bad as many think. Unless you think the coaching staff knows less than you do. I'd be looking for another backup center/guard to replace him. And I'd like to know what's happening on the exchange from center with Kitna.

That's about how I feel about Procter. He's not quite bad enough to get cut given our lack of depth.

Nothing on this list surprised me, except maybe Mickens.

So I guess the winner of the 1st and long show ended up being more than just camp fodder huh?

IF he makes it to the PS, it was 2 plays that did it. Both showing his alertness and hustle. Which is good.

The rebound pass he caught, and his awarness to grab and run the ball for a TD on the punt last night. Ohter than that he showed nothing IMO.
But that doesn't mean anything. The coaches seen something in camp they liked.
And Michael Irvin knows more about WR's then all of us put together, and he thinks Holley has a little something too.

I made my jabs about him, but if he makes it, it;s because he deserves it. Even thought I originally thought it was suspect how he got the 80th spot. But maybe I will be proved wrong, as many others.

Stanback Among Saturday's Cuts
Posted by nickeatman at 9/5/2009 4:41 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

The Cowboys have turned in their roster cuts to the NFL, and among the big names include wide receivers Isaiah Stanback and Jesse Holley, who scored the winning touchdown Friday night in Minnesota, and late-round draft picks DeAngelo Smith and Mike Mickens, a pair of defensive backs from the University of Cincinnati.

In all, the Cowboys released 22 players and put another on injured reserve. That actually puts the roster at 52 players. It’s likely the Cowboys will claim another player on Sunday.

Stanback, a fourth-round pick in 2007, has struggled to stay healthy and transition himself as a receiver from a quarterback in college. He has just two reception in two injury-plagued seasons.

Not on this list is rookie wide receiver Kevin Ogletree, the only undrafted player to make the team. Ogletree scored two touchdowns in the preseason, including the first of five scores by the Cowboys in Friday’s 35-31 preseason win over the Vikings.

Other so-called “bubble” guys that have made it for now include guards Cory Procter and Montrae Holland and nose tackle Junior Siavii, who hasn’t played an NFL game since 2006.

The Cowboys decided to move rookie linebacker Stephen Hodge to injured reserve. The sixth-round pick from TCU never fully recovered from a knee injury that required surgery in July. Hodge joins Robert Brewster and Brandon Williams among draft picks that will be lost for the 2009 season.

Here’s a list of the cuts and roster moves made on Saturday:

Injured Reserve:
Stephen Hodge

Waived:
Travis Bright

Courtney Brown

Rudy Carpenter

Scott Chandler

Julius Crosslin
Marcus Dixon
Tearrius George
Ryan Gibbons
Jeremy Haynes

Jesse Holley

Mike Jefferson

Manuel Johnson
Keon Lattimore (waived/injured)

Mike Mickens
Willie Reid

Derreck Robinson

Asaph Schwapp

Jonas Seawright

DeAngelo Smith

Isaiah Stanback

Matt Stewart

DeAngelo Willingham

I thought Stewart played well
