I'm arguing against your assertion that the roster sucks from top to bottom.

Franchise QB.
Franchise RB.
3 All Pro OL including the top LT in NFL
Solid WR corps, TE
Most accurate PK in history
Great LB in Lee
Leading pass rusher in 2017

Do we have holes-- particularly on defense? Yes. Does the loss of Carroll and Paea make a difference to W/L record this year? No.

Should the FO spend more money on defensive FAs? I think so but that's an opinion.

What I am taking issue with is your seeming connection to Carroll and Paea leaving the team and equating that with our roster sucking from top to bottom.

If you want to blast the FO for not signing more FAs or for signing Carroll and Paea to begin with -- be my guest.

But if your conclusion is that our roster sucks from top to bottom-- you lose me.

Franchise QB? This is still TBD. Hold your horses, bud.
Franchise RB? Seriously, this position outside of kicker and punter is the least I care about.
LOL solid WR? I used to defend Dez. I'm done, he's junk and past his prime. Beasley is a good slot receiver, T-Will is inconsistent and Butler is a 1 to 2 catch guy.
Lee is on his last leg and I won't be surprised if he is injured again
Lawrence is playing at an elite level

We have more than a hole on defense, it's a freakin' black hole. And seeing as how it looks like our O-Line has taken a step back, there's little to praise on this team. Top to bottom, this team is junk.

Whoah... well Irving, Price, and maybe T Crawford rotate there?

Dallas only employs a 1-tech on about 30% pf snaps. In nickel, they use a pair of 3Ts inside. DT is still halfway solid (Irving, Collins, Crawford, Price, + someone to be signed). On the occasions when they go with their base, look for Irving to get the majority of the snaps. When in nickel, I think we'll see a rotation of many playing DT.

Who cares, over rated and couldn't practice since TC. The fact that some of you are upset about him leaving shows just how low our expectations have went. I wish he would take a few guys with him. As bad as we are on Defense what good are guys like Orlando, Frazier, and Heath doing getting any PT? Put Clear Eyed on the bench and let him get healthy and learn In the film room, and tell Taco to watch and watch and watch and watch all while eating 200 Tacos a day. Start Jones and Lewis at Corner and put Woods and Obie1 at safety. Brown could rotate in until he gets his head back on. It couldn't be any worse than what there already is... Get all these average guys out of here...

1T is the least important position along our line and in this scheme.

Step away from the ledge.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't need to be filled by a competent player. See the three 100 yard rushers allowed in five games.

Not on a ledge, pointing out a clear weakness on the team. Apparently you haven't been watching the games.

Not one of them is a legit 1T. And that's a huge problem with the defense thus far.

Since we only utilize a 1-tech (over the outside shoulder of the center) when in base defense (less than 30% of all snaps), none of those DEs will have to play at 1-tech. The rest of the snaps Dallas plays a pair of 3-techs (outside shoulder of the guard), or employs a 3-man DL. Irving and Crawford handled most of the 1T duties against Green Bay, and they did just fine. Green Bay ran all over Dallas, but the biggest chunk of their yardage came outside of the tackles.

I keep telling folks - a healthy Sean Lee will make the DL look quite a bit better.

Exactly, Sean Lee had 25 tackles in the first three games and is a coach on the field, its no surprise that our defense collapsed in the second half of the games he has missed.

And an Irving/Crawford combination is an upgrade over Paea/Price.

Whoever thought we would be longing for the glory days of Nick Hayden and Jeremy Mincey?

You're wrong. The core of this team won 13 games last season.

You are over reacting to a slow start to a season and there is still a lot of football to play.

I didn't see this "we're iunk from top to bottom" post from you last year, or this past offseason. You are basing your "analysis" on a small sample size of games this year, and you're ignoring data to confirm your bias (like pretty much ignoring the success last year).

Any way-- we've all overreacted and said dumb things before lol. Trying to "defend" your assertion that this roster is junk from top to bottom just makes it worse...

You would think we would know that from a physical and not signed him....

Leary also has a degenerative knee condition, and is also just one hit away from retirement. That uncertainty made his asking price too high.
These chronic conditions are frequently a crap shoot. (I'm not referencing chronic diarrhea)

Great.

It's not about being on the ledge. It's about admitting reality. This team believes any grocery bagging stiff who weighs around 300 lbs can be a 1 tech for us.

Maybe we should aspire to get some better, more competent players there in the future instead of the yearly band aid that Marinelli seems to love.

I'm tired of hearing the tall tale about how we don't need a true 1T in this defense because Rod needs his 'Rushmen'. Rushmen who never materialize.

And now, it's even spread to the fans who think we'll just plug Crawford or Irving into any spot and not miss a beat.

Or wait! Sean Lee might play next week! He'll fix everything!

All hail McClay. And Marinelli. Sweet signing.

Meanwhile Thornton is doing just fine in Buffalo.

This is simply not true.

It cannot be just any stiff. Marinelli has to like that stiff thanks to their non-stop motor and quick twitch.

And I am not even suggesting they go out and blow a crap ton of money in FA or a 1st round pick on a 1 tech. But there would seem to be a middle ground between the Nick Haydens/Stephen Paea's/playing guys out of position there and then spending a bazillion dollars on such a guy.
