Ummmm.......... for one, the Cowboys didn't think he sucked. They chased him like a dog after a meat truck for two straight offseasons. He was more than just a safety net for Awuzie and Lewis. They mistakenly thought he could play and that he wasn't as bad as he showed himself to be when he played in Philly.

Turns out they were wrong.

Yah... the FO has not been adding quality pieces on D through FA. We all know this.

Carroll and Paea just aren't difference makers-- move on.

If they are looking for a guy to hold a double team, and is available, they should consider Dan Williams. Hopefully he hasn't eaten himself into oblivion.

The guy was at best an average player. An average player with a bad knee.

Makes the release of Cedric Thornton an even more suspect move. The Cowboy front office had a very bad offseason in terms of roster building.
Yeah I can't believe they didn't plan for in season retirement.

I hope this season shows the staff it’s time to get serious about defense. No more low end signings. Draft and spend money on defense for once!!

They need to stop taking risk on these defensive players. We wait for them a year to heal from an injury, hope they overcome substance or legal problem's.

Yeah I can't believe they didn't plan for in season retirement.

Considering that he was having knee issues during training camp, and they broke camp with 3 defensive tackles on the 53 man roster, I would say that they didn't plan well at all. They didn't manage the DT position well. It has been shown on the field, and now they are down another body. Thornton, at the very least, gave them an option to fill the position that they were going to pay for whether he was on the roster or not. Knowing that Paea had a knee issue going into the season, and allowing the depth at the position to be razor thin was a mistake by the front office.

Not buying this crap being put out here by fans about Paea, he was a good get that unfortunately has a bad knee that does not allow him to do what he is known for. Use his strength and LEVERAGE as an ex wrestler ... Always been known as a super strong DT who uses leverage, now he cant, sorry to see him retire - nothing been said about his knee this off-season. He had a really good camp, but re-injured that knee in season, and I would have to assume our Doc. has told him its best for him to retire. Its unfortunate, and I for one had high hopes for him this year. And he was not going to lose his position to Irving - that's dumb, Irving is a #270 pound DE/DT when they play their 3-man front, he is NOT a starting 1-tech. Paea is/was # 310 - huge difference. Carroll - oh well, not loseing sleep there.
As always, I think our starting 1-tech needs to be drafted and within first 2 rounds - can I say for the 100th time this year already DaRon Payne !
Note: I see they have picked up some no-name LB for Carroll, will see what they do at 1-tech.
The way our run defense is getting gashed, they are going to need a talented big man inside - Marrinelli is gonna have to change his tune....

Oh well. He's another average player.
He was impressive in the pre-season and TC before his knee issues came up. And he was a pro-bowler a couple years back in Marinellis scheme. It's too bad, but he definitely had a chance to be much better than a JAG
