not franchised Schultz or re-signed Gallup. Restructured his contract since all the guarantees were finished. Not announced to the world they were getting rid of him. Any number of things
This is silly stuff and you really can do better.

They COULD have let Schultz walk with zero proven TE back up PRIOR to the draft?? Not really.
And they COULD have let Gallup go even though he was a bargain. Sure because they'd rather pay 4X as much for an older Amari???
Those 2 moves would save about 15.5M. And you basically break even. Those 2 versus Amari for 2022.

BUT that includes his go away dead money. You didn't eat that yet if you kept him.
So now for 2023 you have Amari with 22M owed again (or 4M dead for cut/trade) versus the cap and 40M in base salaries the next two years,

Re-structure because he is not owned GTD money is WILD. The restructure is GTD. You push GTD money forward into his last 2 years.
Years that coincide with paying CeeDee, Trevon and Micah. They moved him specifically because the money wasn't GTD.
They were going to simply cut him June 1st.

Not tell the world....
The world already knew. Fans are goofy but teams know what is going on. Fans pretending the NFL would somehow been stumped by this is the dumbest argument known to mankind.
THIS forum knew it 12 months ago. We knew it 18 months ago.
When Dallas ate his full base salary we were like, yup that dude is gone.
And guess what? Amari ALSO knew.
So there were days he played chess but didn't practice. For the first time ever a guy thats church mouse quiet started grumbling to media.

Trades and releases are leaked with very clear intent.
The entire NFL knew they had to cough up at least a 4th to win the Coop sweepstakes and they didn't.
WHY? Because he actually had a fairly neutral value given how much money he was owed.
3 years 60M owed to a 27-year old with a LOT of wear and tear on his legs?
He had never had a top 5 WR season. EVER. And he had two declining seasons in a row.
But, but he's super great in CLE.
Is he??
He has less yards and catches than CeeDee who we keep hearing is mid or disappointing.
He also had 2 games with less than 20 yards receiving.
And his team is 3-5 having lost 4 of the last 5.

There a very high likelihood CLE cuts him after the season.
His contract is insane for them going forward.

The time to stop chirping about Amari was this off-season. The next best time is now.
Trying to argue the Browns FO is smarter than Dallas and got one over them with Amari is just hilariously dumb.
They drafted Baker 1st overall and gave the most GTD money ever to an air humper.

compare amaris production and cost to gallup and schulz’s because they were his direct replacement choices and equivalent costs. he had zero guaranteed money left so can re-evaluate year to year.

speaking of goofy, equating the records without applying any critical thought is pretty damn goofy lol.

the defense is single handidly winning games, and having a more competent offense to compliment it sounds like a winning recipe moving forward. go off though

Some people can’t face the reality. So they’ll come up with any and every lame excuse otherwise that they can come up with. Some of which are downright embarrassing.

I think the Cowboys gambled trading for Cooper who ended up being the same player he was with the Raiders. An up and down player that sometimes looked like one of the best receivers in the NFL, then a questionable number 1.

you're just loud and wrong my dude. it's hilarious honestly

Yes. They could have let Schultz walk. easily. Much more detrimental to let the best wr on your team leave than your opportunistic inflated TE, yes.
They still had Sprinkle and McKeon, but even still.... Jarwin UDFA, Schutlz fourth rd pick... it's what they do, hence Hendershot UDFA and Ferguson 4th rd pick. Yeah even without the benefit of hindsight we could map this one out.

As far as restructuring Amari's contract... here you go again, all the browns moved was his salary for THIS year (which is what we're discussing yeah?) he had no guaranteed money left on his deal, but yes, obviously if you keep him each year you keep him becomes guaranteed, naturally. And yes, restructuring one year of salary is easy, and beneficial. Especially when compared to a fully guaranteed franchise tag for a middling talent lol, and that's before getting to the "bargain" of an acl damaged 2/3 who has paid zero dividends as of yet this year.

as far as your contention that the forum, teams and the world knew amari was gone, that's asinine lol. what are you talking about "ate his base salary" ??? they paid him his contract as they do for every player lol. people speculated that the way his contract was structured made him expendable befor ceedees eventual extension if necessary, but no, it was not widely presumed or common knowledge he'd be gone until the offseason when the Jones's poisoned the well.
trades being leaked with clear intent... sure, but there's a vast difference between "player x is on the block, or available for the right price" and "the cowboys have soured on amari and will look to trade or cut him before his contract guarantees" along with all of the leaked ******** about him lol. you can't be this dense. he was also traded before free agency and the draft, which is incredibly short sighted especially with the middling talents that received comparable contracts. just bad business all around

his production in cleveland with jacoby brisset throwing to him compared to ceedees also doesn't make the point you intend it to lol. he's doing things there no receiver had done in an eternity with a guy that shouldn't even be playing at your local ymca. we can revisit once deshaun is under center and at the end of the season if you like, but it's also besides the point. what he's doing in cleveland isnt the point, it's what he could be doing here with us and we'd certainly welcome his production at this point (assuming it as as supressed as it is with brisset) but again, hows it look compared to gallup and schultz?

in what world is amari's contract 4 x gallups? do the math for me please, because it's certainly not mathing. and while you're at it please compare their production lol.
"an older amari" ? he's 28 lol... not like he's 35. GALLUP SUFFERED A TORN ACL lmao. Yes... you pay more for a healthy in his prime wr than an injured 2/3 who's slightly younger. Every day of the week

"those 2 vs Amari for 2022" open and shut case. Not sure what your point was there

anyway.... it's wild how dumb you sound for exerting such effort. I admire the research and supporting argument, but it just sucks and you're wrong. wouldn't bother me so much if you werent so condescending about it, but here we are.

Brain fart on your part, maybe.

On TNF (Thursday Night Football) Sept. 9, 2021, week 1.
Amari Cooper had 13 catches on 17 targets with 139 yards (I was off by 2 yards)
and 2 TDs in Tampa Bay against Brady's Bucs.

You're right. When you said "Cooper" I brain farted and thought you meant Cooper Rush. My bad. I apologize.

But I will still disagree with you saying we would've beaten Philthy with Amari. The receiving corps wasn't the problem in the first half when they got that lead, it was the Cooper Rush who was the problem. And it wouldn't have made a difference had we had Amari in the first game, IMO, because the whole team came out flat just like we did against the 49ers, when we did have Amari.

Amari doesn’t show up in big games so he would’ve been MIA against Philly. Buccaneers ran all over us so I guess Amari can stop the run to lol.

He shows up big when treated like a #1.
SNF @ Minnesota with Rush at QB, TNF @ TB,
MNF vs. AFC Champ Bengals with Jacoby Brissett at QB.
Funny how that works.

Start a thread.
I'll comment.
I hope it's interesting.

Sure, any other player that hasn't been with the team for 6+ months you'd like to talk about? How about a Randy G thread?

I appreciate that. We are not perfect creatures... lol.
You make good points. Especially the TB game. You'd think the first game would be one
they're most prepared to play, but nope. Flat as a pancake.
I'm sticking with my Eagles prediction based solely on the Minnesota game last year.
Cooper wouldn't had big plays. I'm thinking at least two less ints Remember, as bad as
they were, Dallas was still very much in that game deep into the 4th quarter.

That's the best you got?
I mean, you're complaining but you have no ideas.
That makes complaining look bad on your part.

getting rid of amari was personal . Jerry didnt want him around anymore so he got what he could for him.
He didnt care about how it affected the team.
He also thinks lamb is a # 1 so no need to keep amari.

Jerry always gets what HE wants lol.

The problem is that the “core group” didn’t remain intact. Looking at Amari Cooper’s 68 receptions for 865 yards across 15 games in 2021, where he had eight touchdowns and averaged 12.7 yards per reception, they would be baited by CeeDee Lamb’s 79 receptions for 1,102 yards across 16 games in that same season, where he scored six touchdowns and averaged 13.9 yards per reception.

While the production was equitable or better from Lamb in that same timeframe, the nearly $4.5 million he was due over the next two seasons compared to the $60 million or so that Cooper was due over the next three years became the biggest factor. Trading Cooper was the route they deemed most effective and efficient for their payroll.

The one they just let walk most recently went for 131 yards and a touchdown on five receptions against a heated in-state rival in the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in a Halloween Showdown. Watching Cooper shine with another team makes this deal even more frustrating.

The Cowboys’ need for a WR at the deadline (and lack of getting one) proves they were wrong to let go of Amari Cooper so quickly

Nine weeks in and past the trade deadline, you can officially say the front office was wrong.

The reality here is that the gamble and the decision to get rid of Cooper for what they got in return was a bad one, and they’re paying for it now.

Meh. They were wrong to keep Gallup and Schulz *for more money* than they saved by dumping Cooper, and that was obvious when they did it.

Events this year only demonstrated why.
This year, we're probably about as good without either Gallup or Schulz. Brown has 1 yard more than both *combined*. The rookie TEs are fine, and both block better than Schulz. Without both, we'd have less depth, but wouldn't be losing much on our starters.
Add Cooper to the Cowboys w/o Gallup and Schulz, and we're a much better offense, with a genuine #1 who commands double teams and is the *only* WR who stretches the field.

When he’s “treated like a #1”…..y’all are nuts lol. Vikings sucked, Bengals sucked and he showed up in a loss to the Buccs. Great lol. I mean at this point why not just be a Browns fan if you are this pro Cooper? If you are this impressed by him wait until you watch guys like Justin Jefferson or Tyreke Hill. It’s gonna blow your mind.

Stop trying to defend poor decisions.

If they wanted to, the team could have made things work. They always have before. Dallas - just like Cleveland DID - could have restructured Cooper’s deal and done everything they ended up doing anyway.

Could have made the money work by keeping Cooper and letting Gallup and Schulz go.
Much better offense today if we had. Rookie TEs and Brown have panned out.

I understand why Amari was traded. Time to move on. With Dak at quarterback we should generate enough offence to win most weeks, especially with this defence…

I understand why the Dallas offense is not as good as last year.
