That's not entirely true. This year was a very deep draft and next year is anticipated to be a very weak one. Not to mention any other year Trai would've been atleast a 2nd rounder but he fell. I personally would risk the 2nd rounder to get a guard in here NOW as a opposed to a year later.
We were discussing trading down with the Martin pick and getting Lawrence in the later first instead.
maybe them going after trai means they like martin at RT or at least want to give him a shot there.
I wouldn't. The player I can get in the middle of round 2 next year will be better than any player at the bottom of this year's 3rd round. There is no way of knowing how strong a draft will be a year away from it. You don't know how these players will develop this year nor do you know which underclassmen will declare. You stick to the general rule and don't trade a 2 for a 3.
Not that I consider Trai Turner some 3rd round gem anyway. He went right where he should have, IMO.

So you draft a guard this year instead of next? How is that a terrible move? Unless next year you find someone of Trai's potential in the 3rd round.....but that's no sure bet. I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. In my mind, there's no difference in when you do it. You get a guard this year with your 3rd rounder or next year with your 3rd rounder. Or potentially 2nd rounder.
There will be a better player at the cowboys rd 2 pick next year than trai turner

I think they on the hook for a 7th to Indi for the Selvie deal.

Ummm, Selvie was not traded to us by Indy...
Caesar Rayford was.
Good idea. Let's start trading away future picks.
I love these guys.
I'm also willing to bet that is the case.
I like Zack and he was the right pick there, but if you were so intent on drafting Lawrence, the right MOVE was to trade down in this draft (that is so deep that you want to trade a 2nd next year for a late 3rd...) even if the "value" didn't add up, instead of trading up and losing that 3rd.
I can't remember a single time I thought "man they sure did the right thing trading that high pick, for a lower last year..."
26-Lawrence 47-Jernigan 78-G. Jackson 83-K. Martin vs. 16-Z. Martin 34-Lawrence...
Considering this team is not 1 or 2 players away... You tell me.
I've been goin with that for almost a year now and mentioned it several times. You the first person to correct me, thanks. I musta got a bad piece of chicken somewhere.
The good news is we're off the hook for that 7th rounder
Selvie was so good that Jerry is tipping people 7th round picks as gratuities.
Is SJ trying to make himself feel better? We coudve? We should've? It was a "neat" )))))) Is anyone feeling better about Stephen running the show after Jerruh. The bottom line is we got jobbed in the early trade just like we did last year. This time we let a divisional rival take advantage of us.
You can't "get jobbed" when you admit beforehand that you lost value in the trade. It was a desperate move made by Jerry to help win now. Only time will tell if the trade turns out worth it.
So if your Defensive Coordinator loves the guy and tells you he's the one difference making pass rusher left in the draft. A player you desperately need for your defense. Do you ignore him? I hate giving up picks but they had to get Lawrence.
You don't know that.No they didn't . It looks like the move of a desperate team. This defense didn't get fixed with this one pick. This is going yo be a two or three year rebuild of the defense at least. Lawrence is not going to have that big of an impact in his rookie season anyway. You don't make desperate moves when the defense needs do many holes filled.
