Cowboys haven't had the luxury to NOT draft by need in a long time. Thank our GM for that.

They've been much better about drafting the BPA since 2010... Much better.

Sometimes that BPA DOES fill a need like the Smith pick two drafts ago. But then you see selections like Lee, Murray and Carter that didn't fill immediate needs but were the BPA's.

Why don't we just draft an OT? Way cheaper than Clabo will be thanks to the new rookie salary cap, and way younger. Why keep blowing money on older stopgap guys when we can draft a guy and plug him in there for 4 years and forget about him?

Because we don't know if who will be available when we draft. Going into the draft intent on targeting a specific position above all else is not a good way to draft.

Yup. he was rated by PFF as #5 RT last year I believe.

The No. 5 RT and the No. 5 guard sounds just right to me. :)

Seriously though, signing Clabo would make this off-season a success (which I don't think many people thought would be possible).

There's a 36 page thread over on the Falcons forum about Clabo's release.

Dude's a stud.

We had the same idiot in charge of drafting since 93. He finally figured out something?

I would rather have winston and I think he is option A and Clabo is option B depending on how the draft goes and the price.

Why? I ask because Clabo is clearly the better player. For the record, I don't want either one of them.

Don't judge him by one game against Charles Johnson... Johnson can make anybody look bad...

Reading through a couple of the threads on the Falcons forum about Clabo...there were some references to him possibly being a better right guard than right tackle. Thought that was interesting. If he could play either position well, signing him before the draft would make a lot of sense. Then whichever was the best opportunity in the draft - guard or tackle - would still be a fit.

Yes, I'll be stoked if we somehow get this player here. I think he fits our needs more than well and it would begin to start looking like an oline.

Clabo is the better player?
I disagree

Winston is younger and played for Houston and KC both zone blocking scheme.
Clabo is 31, will be 32 in october.

Sorry but IMO Winston is a much better fit and better player than Clabo
