Clabo signs will be the end for free. Have more money to spend too.

Dallas should look at it as can we get Clabo for the same amount (or less) than we're paying Free? If so, then you definitely upgrade.

On what basis? Because I have found one expert who ranked Winston higher last season.

Reading through a couple of the Clabo threads on the Falcons forum about Clabo...there were some references to him possibly being a better right guard than right tackle. Thought that was interesting. If he could play either position well, signing him before the draft would make a lot of sense. Then whichever was the best opportunity in the draft - guard or tackle - would still be a fit.

If he does have that position flexibility it would be great, and possibly make him a better signing than Brandon Moore.

Moore, whom I still want, could easily upgrade a guard spot, but if Clabo can upgrade either guard or tackle, he gives us the chance to see how Parnell handles RT.

That was my thought too. It's the first I had heard about him at guard. But it would make him really attractive, maybe moreso than Moore for the flexibility both in the draft and with Parnell.

one expert out of how many and who is your expert?

Just going off what I see. I just don't think Clabo fits the scheme here as well Winston would. Winston has been a RT for zone blocking scheme for the past several years. Winston is also 2 years younger. If they cost about the same I would take the player that fits the scheme, yuonger, and is the better player IMO that is Winston.

And we could then see how the draft goes and release Livings if Cooper or Warmack end up being our first round picks. Clabo could take whichever position is necessary on the right side, letting us move Mack to backup OC and swing for either OG position.

It appears to me, based on him being available this long, that Winston is looking for more money than teams are willing to pay.

Dallas needs to work out deals with whichever of these linemen it can get for the right amount of money. Arguing over who's better doesn't really mean much to me when all the ones mentioned are better than what we've got.

Careful guys....

Stack Watch...down

"Tyson Clabo, right tackle, Falcons. He was the guy that was matched up with Carolina’s Charles Johnson most of the day. Even though the Falcons gave Clabo a lot of help by lining up offensive lineman Mike Johnson as a tight end, Charles Johnson still was able to beat the blocks and record 3.5 sacks."

Here are the 7 sacks from that game, Clabo is RT/#77:

I disagree

Winston is younger and played for Houston and KC both zone blocking scheme.
Clabo is 31, will be 32 in october.

Sorry but IMO Winston is a much better fit and better player than Clabo

Zone scheme or not, Winston has regressed quite a bit by some reports. There is a reason that he hasn't signed before now. If it come to a point that an inferior player is signed because of scheme, the scheme is inferior. I believe in getting the best talent possible.

As I posted earlier, I don't care for any free agent signings on the line. Dallas needs to draft linemen and quit depending on castoffs.

Yes, movable parts make things much easier. That's one reason I like the idea of drafting D.J. Fluker. There appears to be some position flex between guard and tackle for him ... but the danger there is he might not turn out to be quick enough for either.

Clabo is a proven option for that positon flex.

I believe getting the best talent that fits your team and Winston is the better talent for this team.

Also you think Winston regressed, so has Clabo. You must not have seen many Falcons games this year. Clabo will be 32 in October, if he has regressed yet, he will at any time.

Why do people keep thinking 32 is old for a lineman?

And to continue on the guard/tackle option idea...I think he's about the same age as Brandon Moore. And a move to guard might prolong his career or his career as a starter. My impression has been that interior OL can have a longer shelf life than tackles.

Did you notice how Davis, Columbo and Kosier fell apart? There are a very few linemen that can maintain a decent level of play into their 30s. It is kinda like using Farve to support 40 year old QBs.

As I stated, I wish Dallas would never sign another free agent lineman. It.is a sorry approach to building a quality line.

I might be more for this move than any other OL move that's been linked to Dallas.

Of course, I'll be doing backflips if Dallas makes any of those FA moves concerning the line. It will at least be one step in the right direction.

But I am greedy ... gimme all three and kick Free and Livings to the curb. (Bernadeau can stay and battle for the center spot.)
