Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

Scandrick's probably going to be starting games this year at some point be it due to a Newman injury or Jenkins making a "business decision" and needing time off to remove Ryan's foot from his posterior but even if he doesn't, a 3rd corner is going to see 75% of the plays anyway.

Plus things are going to get ugly salary wise as soon as teams have to hit the salary floor and start throwing insane money around so it's a pretty fair deal to both sides.

Scandrick is not Asoumgha. His play on the field has not warranted this kind of commitment from the team at this point. Just another Jerry move.

Just another Jerry move would be Scandy getting interceptions in the first two games then immediately getting a 6 year 60 million contract.

You're right, he's not Asomugha.

And he's not being paid like him either.

Everyone read this three times and commit it to memory.

You guys need to stop listening to fans who are not actually scouts. (or have a clue)

This is without question a good sign for the Cowboys. A CB of his quality on the open market would be a lot more than this. Scandrick took a discount to sign early and guarantee some money in case of injury.

lol, I started a thread about resigning him not that long ago. Obviously the team feels Jenkins/Scandrick is the combo of the future. Very interesting.

6 Mil a year is a nice chunk of money, more than I thought we'd sign him for but the contracts since the new CBA has been pretty wild.

My thought process was that it was better to sign him early than late, seems the team thought the same as well.

"This is his year," Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant said of Scandrick. "He's going to have a breakout year. You heard it here first. Scandrick is just doing a great job."

$2 mil / year

$6 mil / year if he plays up to the level.

Even better, I like the signing.

People always complain about grooming out young guys and keeping them around to reap the benefits of the investment, well here we go.

If Josh Thomas pans out, we've got #1, #2 and #3 in place for the next 5+ years.

I obviously hope this kid does well and have always liked what I've heard about his work ethic, attitude and fire but at this point I'm more concerned about the structure of the contract.

Does it keep the Cowboys nibble (cap-wise) if he doesn't pan out or are we going to be married to him if he doesn't perform up to his contract?

Is the guaranteed money absorbed this year and next, so worse case scenario, we can cut him in 2013?

Sounds like it could possibly be a two year commitment at $10 million and if he's not measuring up going into the 3rd year, we can cut him loose and if he is meeting or exceeding expectations, then hopefully we'll have him at a discount to the current market. I hope that's the worst case scenario

Was just thinking the other day about how we need to start drafting corners again because Newman will be gone eventually and Scandrick may get a big payday in free agency. This is good news -- relatively cheap.

scandrick had his best practice of training camp today.
block fg, int, a few PBU's and a sack.

I'm glad he and Bennett are All Pro's in practice.

We've been agreeing way too much lately. Gross.

maybe I'm in the minority, but I like this signing. He's been a contributor since day 1. He also plays the slot which is probably tougher than playing outside. Newman will be gone and he'll be a "starter" next year.

Plus he tackles. I thought he got home on the blitz last year, particularly late in the year as long as he's patient and wraps the qb when he gets there. I think Rob Ryan has big plans to use him this year as a blitzer. What can I say? I really like Scandrick and obviously so do the Cowboys. I feel he's their best corner.

this.... spot on... a voice of reason.

ugh, Jerry got trigger happy. Scandrick has been way too inconsistent to justify this deal, he's been horrid for most of the past 2 seasons. I was hoping we'd at least see what we had in Josh Thomas before making any long term commitment with him.

In place of whom?

And why?

Just curious.

In place of Newman, who will be relegated to the slot (if he even makes it back by then). Newman is not going to jump into the starting line up after he hasn't even practiced this year in a new defense. Watch and see.
