Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

They wont pay a guy like Jenkins $5 million a season but they will pay a guy who has under produced over $5 million on potential. Would be nice if they were paying guys from production instead of potential

I'll show you a few links.

The 2010 stats:
http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...f-he-thinks-cowboys-are-set-at-cornerback.ece

"Quarterbacks completed 53 of 77 passes for 530 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception — a passer rating of 113.0 — against Orlando Scandrick."

The 2009 stat:
http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178064

"
Scandrick is targeted on 14.5% of all snaps that he is on the field, a higher percentage than any other cornerback in the NFL who participated in at least 25% of his teams offensive snaps. It's official! Nobody in the NFL is targeted more than Orlando Scandrick.

Clearly, opposing teams singled Scandrick out as the 'weak link' in the our secondary."

I am baffled, anybody can see those numbers and still think he is a good CB option. He is young, and may become a good CB, but he has been far from good the last two years. I could argue he has been way below average. He is one of those guys who seems to work hard and says the right things so he slips under the radar and fans actually seem to like him. You find fans saying he was our best CB last year(even though the numbers disagree).

It is almost baffling, like we deserve some kind of explination or aleast a good lie. Where is Jerry when you need him.

If they were paying Jenkins based on his production last year he'd owe the Cowboys franchise 5 million.

I imagine Jenkins with a pro-bowl under his belt but a horrid 2010 year would think he deserves more then Orlando who has had two terrible seasons in a row.

Probably doesn't thrill him to see the guy behind him on the depth chart getting paid more then he does.

Honestly? Who gives a damn whether or not he's thrilled. He was garbage last year. I'm sure the franchise wasn't thrilled with him, either.

Let it be motivation. He needs to get his *** back out there and prove he's as good as he was in 2009. If he does....he'll get paid, and he'll get paid well.

$10 mil over 5 years isn't really that much guys... If he gets what we expect out of him then he earns the $27 mil and it will be deserved.

I don't see a problem with this.

it's only 10 Mil Guarantee it's not a bad contract

Just quoting for emphasis for the people on the ledge in here.

I hope it works. He doesn't seem all that mentally tough, so I doubt it will motivate him anymore then he already is.

You would think he would see that deal and lick his chops thinking "I know Im better then him. I'm gonna get a big check if I can have a great year".

But I guess we will see.

Oh wait, another person that can read more than the subject line!

Great deal. Scandrick will be one of the Cowboys starting CB soon enough. This kid has work ethic and talent. I think with more experience, he is going to be a high quality starting CB.

Great signing for cheap dollars!

Going rate of average CB's we have seen this off season coupled with what we are likely to see next year Jerry actually got in under the radar and probably this time next year we will be thinking he got a deal.

Great to see you again SDogo! We missed a quality poster!

Ryan must really like Scandrick.
This is a smart move, think about it. He might become a starter on this team and he is in the last year of his deal. If he has a great year this year he would demand more money and with our salary cap situation next year we might not be able to sign him. If he doesn't become a starter or play great thats not bad money for a true #3.

Like I said before, Ryan must really like what he sees in Scandrick.

Guys he is 24 years old and has 3 seasons in and 9 starts.

Here is a radio show 4 days ago talking about Scandrick.

Looking around at other CBs resigned in the past year and noticed Green Bay resigned Tramon Williams for 4 years $33 million with $11 million guaranteed....

Scandrick got $10 million guaranteed -- surprisingly, their guaranteed money is pretty close.

The market must have skyrocketed since last November when Williams was signed because Williams had an All-Pro Season and so far Scandrick has been just ok (I guess).

scandrick had his best practice of training camp today.
block fg, int, a few PBU's and a sack.

Great deal. Shows you what they think of him, and did it before he became a FA

For those that think it's not a good deal you don't know football. He only has been playing the toughest position on the field outside of QB since he was a rookie. There is a reason that the eagles are putting Asoumgha in the slot!

Scandrick is not Asoumgha. His play on the field has not warranted this kind of commitment from the team at this point. Just another Jerry move.

Haha ya I was  with everybody freaking out about the money part.

We seem to agree on many topics.

We got a fifth round pick who is a soon to be starter, if he didn't come out his junior year Scandrick was about a 2nd round talent, and he's only guaranteed $10 mil. Hey, we saved $50 mil from what could have been a 30 year old Asomugha. Lets continue to build in the right direction. No more big spending for the gamble of a trophy in one year. We've been there done that; and we are still digging our way out of it.

I think he blocked something like 7 FGS in college. I'm surprised we either aren't using him/he hasn't blocked some yet for us.

That was one of his strengths in college.
