Would be great if Ryan can teach him to turn his damn head for the ball
you mean when he is chasing;) he has nightmares about S.Smith

Didn't we draft TNew at an age that is older than Scandrick is now?

Ok I will shut up.

No, Jenkins was one of the bad starters from last year.

Scandrick is a good #3 CB but a bad #2 CB.

4 years $12M would have been a fair deal for someone with his resume.

He has bad ball awareness and is terrible in press coverage so I'm not even sure that he fits Ryan's defense all that well.

On the plus side, he is a good tackler, he is durable and he plays hard.

I think this is Barber situation all over again - we've given starter money to a backup with big holes in his game.

Yeah it's difficult to understand this kind of contract for a role player. It's par for Jerry but sigh* if you give him the benefit of the doubt sigh****
:look: ......maybe this is trusting Ryans opinion .

Yes we did. Great point. Newman was 25 when his rookie season started

How is he an above average player?

He was the most targeted CB in the league in 09, and gave up 7 tds with a 113 QB rating against him last year.

What top WR has he ever even held his own against? What game changing play has he made?

I don't understand how people can bash Newman and Jenkins who have played well and to high levels at times, and then praise Scandrick who hasn't done anything special in 3 years.

2009 was what his 2nd year in the league after coming of a solid rookie year and last year I have no idea who caused what but that entire defense was lost. I never said he was special see that is the problem with people on this board it is one extreme or the other with players if he is not an all pro they just suck. I see him as a solid young player that has produced. Yes he needs to take another step up in his development.

If these items you stated about Scandrick are true (and I have no reason not to believe you) that would indicate to me we may have made a mistake giving him anything more than the minimum....

2009, was the most targeted CB in the entire league and allowed 62% completion rate against him.
2010, gave up 6 tds and allowed 65% completion percentage
Quarterbacks completed 53 of 77 passes for 530 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception — a passer rating of 113.0 — against Orlando Scandrick

I wish you hadn't presented this info. I preferred to live in fantasy land...

Kudos on a great point.

I would not have not have spent that much on him for that long.

It doesn't bother me much because he is tough, durable, loves football, and has enough athletic ability to be serviceable. He does lack height and speed, but then again he's not getting paid like he has it, if he did it would be a $50M contract.

I'll show you a few links.

The 2010 stats:
http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...f-he-thinks-cowboys-are-set-at-cornerback.ece

"
Quarterbacks completed 53 of 77 passes for 530 yards with seven touchdowns and an interception — a passer rating of 113.0 — against Orlando Scandrick."

The 2009 stat:
http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=178064

"
Scandrick is targeted on 14.5% of all snaps that he is on the field, a higher percentage than any other cornerback in the NFL who participated in at least 25% of his teams offensive snaps. It's official! Nobody in the NFL is targeted more than Orlando Scandrick.

Clearly, opposing teams singled Scandrick out as the 'weak link' in the our secondary."

I am baffled, anybody can see those numbers and still think he is a good CB option. He is young, and may become a good CB, but he has been far from good the last two years. I could argue he has been way below average. He is one of those guys who seems to work hard and says the right things so he slips under the radar and fans actually seem to like him. You find fans saying he was our best CB last year(even though the numbers disagree).

What did J Joseph sign for?

RT @McClain_on_NFL: J Joseph gets 5 years, $48.75 million and $23.5 guaranteed, including $12.5 signing bonus, from Houston

Going rate of average CB's we have seen this off season coupled with what we are likely to see next year Jerry actually got in under the radar and probably this time next year we will be thinking he got a deal.

That's exactly right.

A quality starting CB is a deal at $5 mil per year, and maybe as soon as next season he will be a starter.

That is the issue I have with this deal. He hasn't done anything yet to make us think he will be one. We definitely need to address CB next year.

Even with Scandrick extended, I figure a corner will be drafted early next April.

Agreed, whether that is Scandrick,Jenkins and a new CB or Scandrick and two new CBs, we have to address it.

I love Newman, but this should be his last year in Dallas, barring him having a monster year. Age and salary.

Jenkins need to improve from last year, or the team will most likely want to move on.

Scandrick didn't deserve his deal, but now that he has it, he is the future at the position. We need to figure out who will be opposite of him next year.

Well alright. Guess Rob Ryan and Jason Garrett have a future in store as far as starting cornerbacks go. Scandrick-Jenkins.

Interesting signing, but I like it. Like to see him locked up...he's got a hunger for the game and a desire to hurt people.

It always amuses me how little people know about contract negotiations and the salary cap when signings are announced, by the way.
