Nope, as long as Romo's health holds out.

Yeah, that is the big assumption part. The other part you are leaving out is him continuing to play at a high level.

He is on the wrong side of 2 back surgeries and age. Romo lasting 3 more years would be nothing short of a miracle. I would bet anyone on this forum that doesn't happen.

Romo still being the starter. The first time he throws an INT, he's still going to be the starter.

Get real. If they drafted Manziel, he would beat Romo out within a year for the starting position. Last I checked you have to win the starting position...at any position on the field, it doesn't go by how much they overpaid you in years past.

Well Cowboys will never go for Johnny Football. Think that Texans will go for him. Romo is the QB for the Cowboys!

I don't get why people think we are stuck with Romo, Romo can get tossed in a year or two I believe. I don't want to pass up on a franchise qb (not saying jfb is) because of need. Drafting for need produces more failures than success. Unless it's Barr or Donald we gotta take the best player up there. I'm at the point were I don't care what position they play (except te) lol

You apparently have not read his contract. After 2 restructures already, there is a boat load of guaranteed money on his deal right now. When Romo restructured, he did not take any pay cut. What the team did was convert base salary to signing bonus so it could be prorated over the next 5 seasons. This is what we are looking at right now with Romo's contract..........

If Romo released before opening day 2014.....................roughly $40 million cap penalty

If Romo released before opening day 2015.....................roughly $30 million cap penalty

If Romo released before opening day 2016.....................roughly $20 million cap penalrety

If Romo released before opening day 2017.....................We save about $11 million dollars.

So like it or not Romo will be on this team for 2014, 2015, and 2016. The soonest we can dump Romo is 2017 which means any drafted QB is going to ride the pine for 3 seasons before seeing the field. That is why the notion of drafting Johnny Football is so stupid, you would either have the most expensive backup QB in NFL history or Manzel would ride the pine for 3 years of his 4 year rookie contract. He then plays 2017 and hits free agency.

It really boils down to the fact that you do not give the type of contract you gave Romo is you plan on replacing him anytime soon. Mickey Spagnola has said that Romo's contract was designed to be iron clad for 3 seasons, meaning it was structured in a way that would financially prohibit the Cowboys from getting rid of Romo over the next 3 seasons.

I'm not sure why this is so hard for some to understand. Good post.
