Cowboys hope to keep Isaac Alarcon on final roster for regular season

They have regret wasting a first on Mazi when Mexican Alarcon is now a Defensive Tackle.
Smith hasn't even been in his own training camp. Right this second, Alarcon at least has time in grade.

I agree. I can’t think of many - if any - success stories when a guy is changing sides of the ball after this many years in the league.
Mark Tuinei helped lead the Dallas Cowboys' o-line when they won three Super Bowls in four years. He tragically died soon after his career.

Yeah. But Tuinei also predates free agency.

Some have to blaze the trail before it becomes a reality. No apology needed for the sacrifice as it establishes real potentials for others, and proven.
A South Texas footballer was both a Defensive and Offensive Coach for Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Juan Castillo who went from offensive line coach for 13 seasons to Offensive Coordinator.

Last I looked, Dallas has 13 defensive linemen. Keeping one who's having to transition to an entirely different position seems odd, unless they're planning on releasing several others.

Maybe they're just trying to keep some certain fans by having him on the team, butt that's pure supposition on my part, maybe they see something in him we don't.

I'll give him a chance, like anybody else....
I believe they can still keep him the PS, with the way the PS is done now, but wouldn't receive an exemption for it. That may make more sense for a player transitioning to defense, and would actually help in that he could play both offense and defense on the scout team.

He isn't even ahead of Bohanna on the depth chart.
Don't think Bohanna makes the team, so putting Alarcon on the PS gives us another big DT for practice purposes, and if he shows enough, maybe to even call up if Hankins or Mazi got hurt during the season.

Practice squad makes the most sense. With a 16 man PS teams can basically keep almost all of their camp cuts except for the guys that get poached off waivers.

With all due respect to Alarcon I don't see another team swooping in to steal him away.

I don't think he will be used on special teams...his road is tough, but so is he.

Beat me to it, I was going to type the same thing.

I don't see how he makes the final roster with this being his first time on the
other side of the ball.
Me, I wouldn't have said anything to Too Tall on either side of the line, as well as the Manster.

We'll see. The size is certainly there and the strength. Hoping to see a burst off the line come preseason.

I'll believe it when they 1) actually do it 2) I see him making plays out there.

Yeah, wipe his slate clean. If he earns it by winning a spot, I want him out there. If they give him a charity spot based on his background over his merit as a player, that won't bode well with even our most loyal fans living in Mexico.

No chance.

Too stiff and unathletic. Plays way too high. Will be driven back to the second level by any NFL-caliber Guard.

Practice Squad because no one else will claim him.
