It's only ridiculous to you because you seem to think a team has to be something special to make the playoffs. We've seen 7-9 and 8-8 teams make the playoffs by backing in. When the NFL adds 2 more playoff teams they'll be more 7-9 and 8-8 teams qualify. The Cowboys have had mediocre teams the last 3 seasons and have had a chance to make the playoffs entering the final week of the season. The Cowboys have had some talented teams that have been mentally weak.

The 2011 Giants were nothing special during the regular season they lost 5 of 6 games leaving them at 7-7 but they kept battling. The Cowboys had them down by 12 points with 8 minutes to play and a loss would have buried the Giants that season but they hung in while the Cowboys folded. The Cowboys were a far more talented team than the Giants in 07 dominating them in both regular season meetings but the Giants were a mentally tough team that had no quit in them.

So to sum it up JG didn't inherit a superbowl team.

The team he inherited was better than the one he has now. If he loses Romo with this team he may not win another game.
