I recall these teams beating the Steelers last season, those that played them anyway. Denver beat them AND the Pats quite convincingly in the postseason. Ravens beat them TWICE. Bengals once. Chiefs beat them too. You need to quit while you're behind.

No one is saying w certainty you can't spend anything now. But signing 30+ year old safeties to big contracts isn't the best strategy IMO. I agree that Mario Williams would've been nice but I don't think he's the end all be all.
We need to wait and see how it plays out.

My side is, that signing old players to big contracts is fraught with risk and a progress
stopper ,generally. Generally there are more contracts that must be signed along
with the offensive lineman.I cant remember the two offensive lineman for New Orleans
back some years ago. They had two real studs but had to let one walk because
they couldn't keep both. I know our top lineman are staggered so its different somewhat.
Pretending that cap doesn't come into the equation because of yearly cap increases
isn't good judgement. Gotta pay the whole team.

The problem with Weedle is that it basically means you're going to play Jones at corner. Neither of these guys are strong safeties.

I don't want to play Jones at corner at all.

Right now our secondary is decently stable with Scandrick, Claiborne, and Jones. Church isn't great, but we can survive with him for a year if need be. I'd actually prefer to cut him, use Wilcox, and use the money else where.

The problem I see with Weddle is his age and declining production. Other than that, he would have been a great signing five years ago .
