Would hate to restructure a deal as I think they are trying to get away from it but if they can get a good deal, I wouldn't be opposed with him and Melton. I think they can still cut Durant for 1.5 Million in savings and if Orton does retire, I think that saves about 3 Million. I had a feeling when they pulled the Herring contract, something was up.

If we can manage to get both for near Ware's cap hit, then Ware's release makes sense. We'd have two of the line starters, one possibly long term, the other a short-term fill-in. Then we can draft the other starting DE ... and all we've got left is getting a high-quality 1 technique.

Particularly since, by this definition, Ware himself would be a short-term fill-in.

There's simply no question about it... Ware was just overpaid/overpriced for what he gives a team.

He doesn't even give that junkyard dog attitude that Haley had that at least would rub off on the rest of the defense.

He will just lay your QB down nice and easy about 6-10 times per year for $10 mil.

If we can get him for a reasonable deal, I would be all for it. We need to keep some kind of veteran presence in the front lines

Which is exactly what Denver signed Ware to be. I can't see signing Peppers to quite the same deal, but I think he would be the more costly one short term than Melton, primarily because Melton is coming off the major injury that sidelined him for a year. Wouldn't doubt Melton will either get a longer-term deal with more money on the back end (after he's proved his health) or gets a one-year prove-it deal.

Might be a good addition if he doesnt want to break the bank. Rod knows him and if he thinks he is worth a look I am not going to disagree. Could be a good mentor for our DL draft picks - I expect at least two picks and more FAs.

I don't really care about the vet presence part. I care about having someone who can rush the passer consistently.

We're not going to get that done by signing players like Mincey. They're good for a role, but not more than that.

2 years, 10 mil with 7 mil guaranteed (that's what I would shoot for)

Hatcher's money was insane. The idea of "paying age" has degrees.

Sure but I don't think $5M for Peppers is any closer to sanity if $7M for Hatcher is insane when Peppers is 2.5 years older.

I dunno. It seems as if Dallas has made the decision to clear the board on defense and start building something. I don't think it's wise to look for a guy like Peppers. He's older, definitely wouldn't expect him to be around for more than 2 years, if that.

If somehow the team is all about fiscal responsibly, they shouldn't look for 1 moderately high priced guy when it won't make a bit of difference on a unit that might be the weakest DL in the NFL.

I think they might have to go a little higher, which is why it would likely be a three-year deal tp spread the bonus hit. Three years, $21 million, with $10 million bonus. First-year hit around $5 million. Second-year $6. Third year, he'd likely be cut with a dead money hit of $3.33 million.

Ware's deal with Denver was 3, $30 and $20, so that would be a bargain in comparison ... and probably less than Peppers wants.

3 years 18 mil with 10 guaranteed? Something along those lines work? I could definitely live with that

If Ware is healthy, he will top 10 sacks for Denver. I am willing to put a wager on it. Would you?

Bingo, he makes a trade down for either Ealy, Ford, or Crichton more viable in round 1. I honestly think if Donald falls to 16 we can nearly trade out round 1 and still get him too.
