The market price is stupid.

Notice that all of the really good teams are laying low, except for Denver.

Ware and Hatcher didn't go for "market price". The sold themselves via an auction which is a whole lot different that offering many of the same exact commodity.

If the Cowboys only reduced Ware's base salary to $10 mil for this season I would have been displeased... He's not worth $10 mil a season any more.

But Hatcher getting like $7 mil this season? If Dallas had paid that I would have put my fist through my monitor.

Add Melton, Ayers , and 2 starters from the draft. If so I think this team has offical refurb the dline.

Agreed.

It wouldn't be the best D-line in Dallas history but it would be a great start at being rebuilt.

I hate to break the news to you, but $$$$$ is the only reason somebody would play for Dallas.

We aint Denver or New England that can promise playoff games or a chance at a ring. All we got to offer free agents is money and this year there is not a lot of money to offer.

Ware and Hatcher left because we did not "show them the money". Did you guys seriously think they were going to give us a hometown discount to play on a 500 team?

Your right. Money is the reason why they sty in Dallas. We don't have a competitive advantage like a Denver or even Seattle which can promise them championships and playoffs. But as an organization thats into business they really have to thread carefully on how they threat their stars. Ware was pissed at Jones for how he handled the situation. Can you imagine keeping that angered emotion in him as he signs a below market value deal with Washington? Take a look at Hatcher's situation as well. He said that it seems that the Cowboys weren't interested in keeping him. Thus it was easy for him to bolt to one of our rivals, the Commanders.

Your right. We really don't have much to offer besides more money. But I'm not too hot on how Jerry has handled our FA situation. These were productive players and it seems that he didn't even try to sign them at a value that can fit our budget. I maybe wrong. But its just how I see it. You treat people with respect they might actually stick around to work with you. Money isn't everything to some players.

I'm down with Peppers. He's a true DE. I'm with those that say give him 1-2 years. Jerry might have to throw in a 3rd (he can always be cut later - unlike NBA contracts) just to sway him our way.

He knows Marinelli's scheme inside out, he's a vet that Selvie and Crawford can learn from, and he could be an influence on Carter - a fellow Tarheel.

Start him, but limit his snaps to preserve him and keep him healthy.

It would have to be reasonable... but if it is, I would like to see him on the strongside and someone quicker at WDE. He's strong enough to hold up on the strongside, and his diminishing quickness would still be good at SDE.

He could certainly help bridge the gap until we've had another draft or two to re-build the DL for a 43.

With the draft, we could really get a pretty nice DL rotation with just a little luck.

At the right price I'd take Peppers as SDE and Allen as WDE. Draft Donald and we have a force to be reckoned with!!

Cut Durant, restructure Witten and sign Melton, Peppers and maybe Allen if the money is there. If not go for the cheaper option of Ayers or Wooton.

From reading your post you would think that Linehan did not use Robert Smith and Steven Jackson extensively.

My friend, please don't get me started on Garrett and the Cowboys not running the ball. I prefer not to got there and many here would prefer me not to. Perhaps they will suddenly realize that chuck-ball ain't the way to put more hardware in a trophy case. I wouldn't bet a nickel on it however.

My nausea at the thought of either Selvie, Mincey or some other yet to be drafted rookie starting at RDE compels me to agree with you. Although my brain tells me that Peppers is not worth that kind of cash given the fact that most observers saw him be wildly inconsistent last season.

I think as a rotational pass rush specialist Peppers can be a productive player. I agree with others maybe a 2 year deal to fill the hole until we can get another draft

I see your point.

I agree that Jerry should have handled the Ware situation differently. Jerry should not have gone to the media and criticized Ware the way he did, that should have stayed in house.

We also should have at least talked to Hatcher and let him know that we thought he was an important piece of the defense, even if we knew we could not match the offer.

One vet on the DL unless you get basically you get a good signing for what amts to a year's contract for the other then look at another vet or two at S and CB.

An Abraham type deal would be okay with me.

sign 'em all (if reasonably priced)! Draft DL in two of the first 3 rounds! problem solved!!!

get melton on board first...get him to call Peppers and jump in, and then get the conference call going with Melton & Peppers calling Allen and saying, hey, let's prove that we can win it!

I'd take Melton and peppers. Then draft bpa. Either dt de or Martin from Nd. Then go more dline in round 2-3.

If we can manage to get both for near Ware's cap hit, then Ware's release makes sense. We'd have two of the line starters, one possibly long term, the other a short-term fill-in. Then we can draft the other starting DE ... and all we've got left is getting a high-quality 1 technique.
