Cowboys interested in Petrus

Thing is I think the quality is going to go well into the 3rd round this year. This draft is extremely deep.

Plus you got your teams that dont have a clue what they are doing that let quality guys slide deep into the draft.

And a trade down doesn't mean we have to move down 10 or 15 spots.

The better prospect are at the top they rated out better than others that is why they are regarded as the top prospects over others. I think all to often you end up missing on players you really want when you start getting to tricky in the draft and I think this draft is way to important to play games. I'm not that interested in finding later rd selection I think it is critical to hit on your top 3 picks and I think you find the best talent at the top of the draft. Again JMO.

yes, I've said all along that if we trade down at any point I'll be teribly disappointed--we need to trade up because we just need one or two quality guys (OL or DB) and not numbers (took care of that last year)

and I would still love to grab a FA or two -- we still have a dozen guys onthe roster who will never contribute and should be let go

I agree. I think we are a contending team I'm not as interested in how many picks we get I'm interested on top quality picks.
If the guys in the 4th rd were looked at as top prospect they would not be sitting in the 4th rd.

Only way I would even think about trading down is if we are talking only 3 or 4 spots anything beyond that I think you end up missing on players you really liked.

To me the only thing worse than reaching is missing on players because you got greedy

I disagree. Players get outperformed by guys with lower grades all the time.

We had a higher grade on Rashard Mendenhall over Felix Jones but we still selected Felix.

Chris Johnson had a lower grade than all the 1st round RB's and he is currently the best in the NFL.

If Dallas trades back I imagine they have a guy pegged that they believe is just as good and brings more value to the draft.

Felix was still a 1st rd pick. I don't want to give up a 2 for a 4th rd player. My interest is really hitting on out top 3 selection I'm not as interested in the late rd picks you hope the late rd picks contribute to the team but the top 3 need to be top solid selections. I think you run the risk of losing top players when you start getting greedy for more picks it is not about how many picks

There is just to many examples of guys picked in lower rounds that aren't rated as high coming out of college that outperform guys in higher rounds.

I trust our scouting department and if they trade back then I know its for the better.

How many of these draft day tantrums have ended up with Cowboy fans getting egg on their face eventually?

any there are example of Dallas missing on guys they talked about. We did that last year guys like Unger were there and we traded out of the 2nd and ended up with a couple 3rd rd picks. I want top players not as insterest with later picks. I love jerry but this is not the year to play around and end up losing out on players. I guess we will just have to disagree. I would just as soon stay right were we are and select the top players on our board than to jerk around and lose out on the better players

Didn't we trade out because Unger or the player we liked was gone?

We'll just have to disagree then because I think this draft is so loaded that it is the year to play around if you feel there is more value in a trade down vs anyone on board.

Im all for a trade up, trade down, or staying put as long as we get guys that fit our system. Some guys who are graded a little higher just may not fit what we do.

Had we not traded the 1st time we could have made that selection or another top prospect.

I just think there will be players at 27 who can help this team. Be it OL,LB,S or WR spot but the main thing is to get quality over quantity

Im sure there will be but im also sure theyll be there at pick 35 too if we trade down.

Some scouts are saying there is 40 or more guys with 1st round grades so im not worried about getting quality in a trade down in any round.

I would just rather go after guys at the top of our board.

Ahh ok....I thought we traded because he was already taken. Since we didn't have a 1st I wasn't glued to the tv last year.

And im ok with almost anything they do because I have a lot of faith in our scouts going into a draft.

I hope they do very well, I think this could be one of the most important drafts the Cowboys have had in terms of getting over the hump and setting ourselves up for a lengthy stay at the top of the pack.

Yeah, but what do you think about the kids in this United States of Americas who, as Americans, don't have maps, Miss South Carolina?

He's not going to win many elocution contests, but I may just have gotten another pet cat here.

One reason I'm against the guy is because I really believe we need to get SMARTER along the offensive line. Flozell, Kosier, Gurode and Davis all get confused at times. Colombo is probably our smartest OL right now. Not sure if Petrus would make us smarter considering he was academically ineligible early in his college career.

I don't think academic eligibility correlates well with football smarts, anyway. Wonderlic might, but I don't remember what's a good/bad score for OL on the Wonderlic anyway. Anybody recall offhand if it's important for big uglies?
