I don't think academic eligibility correlates well with football smarts, anyway. Wonderlic might, but I don't remember what's a good/bad score for OL on the Wonderlic anyway. Anybody recall offhand if it's important for big uglies?

I mean I guess it has to somewhat correlate. The question is, why was he ruled academic ineligible; because he didn't have the mental capacity to process information, or he just didn't give a **** about school, you know what I'm saying? But either way, I believe it is a red flag. You could compare memorizing and learning information at college in the classroom, to learning and processing information in an NFL playbook.

There are two reasons I think it probably doesn't correlate well. One is just what you say: some players just don't give a **** about the classroom. The second is there's a difference between digesting knowledge that comes from a textbook and being able to recall it correctly or work with the concepts you've been taught correctly and the kind of split-second processing you need to do in the NFL trenches. All of us process information differently, and the NFL practice field is so much different from a college classroom that I don't think the comparisons are particularly worthwhile.

The Wonderlic was developed to get an indication of how well players can process complex information quickly. It's hard to say how useful it is for doing that when you see players with low or mediocre Wonderlic scores playing in probowls regularly.

One reason I'm against the guy is because I really believe we need to get SMARTER along the offensive line. Flozell, Kosier, Gurode and Davis all get confused at times. Colombo is probably our smartest OL right now. Not sure if Petrus would make us smarter considering he was academically ineligible early in his college career.

He wasn't academically ineligible because of his grades. He didn't fail any classes. He got some bad advice on the courses he needed to take when changing majors and fell short on academic eligibility requirements.

He made the Razorbacks Honor Roll in 2008-2009.

I fail to see how he would be a good second round value. Third and beyond, yes. But I do not see Petrus as among the top 59 players in this draft.

Yeah, I addressed that later in the thread. I didn't know what his value was and assumed it was in the late second range. I'm OK with whenever he's selected, just glad Dallas has shown interest in him.

I would think it will be 3rd or 4th round if they select him.

Sounds good.

2/10/09: Academically ineligible. Missed the 2008 season

opps that doe not sound good

He didn't take some courses he needed to take in order to keep his eligibility because he was changing majors and received bad advice on which courses he needed to take.

Wanted to point this out again because it is easy for misinformation to be spread.

i thought kosier was our smartest? he helps make line calls cause gurode isnt very smart. i think thats why they like proctor cause he is smart and can make the line calls as well if he has too fill in.

oh well he will never where a Dallas UNI

Guard

Measurables: 6-4, 305, 33-inch arms
Key trait: Arm length is less important inside, where guards are asked to block in a closet. It’s more important to have lower-body thickness to anchor against the growing number of 310-pound defensive tackles.
Prototype: Logan Mankins (6-4, 307). New England, 1st round, 2005.
Exception: Jake Scott (6-5, 295). Indianapolis, 5th round, 2004.
