The real kicker is the giants won a Super Bowl with Fatty as the backup and then again with the dreadful terrible David Carr.

They now have a guy who has never taken a snap. Yet they don't seem to worry at all.

It sucks how this organization gets themselves into these binds.
Eli is a rock. Never missed a game in 12 years. He seems to have an uncanny ability to never take a direct hit.

Yep. No question. He has been a great player for the giants. To think that he insisted on playing there and refused to go to SD really makes me wonder what would have happened had rivers been a giant and not manning.

The Emmitt Smith of the QB position.

That's smart football on Eli's behalf.

Tony Romo really needs to have it drilled in his head to live for another play once in awhile.

I guess you just can't beat that competitive nature out of him................

The latest rumor from PFT:

Report: Cowboys like Josh McCown, Browns “reluctant” to trade

Ugh!

I don't have an issue with the player, but after going cheap at the position the entire offseason, now they're willing to pay $4 million for one year and give up compensation to do it?

Any homers out there, please feel free to step up and waste your time trying to defend this.

This is the part where we let Ron Leary go for nothing.

Let's not make the mistake of assuming the team needs to be defended against PFT rumors in the first place, but if we're discussing options, depending what's given up in trade, I'm all for paying competent backup QB money to a competent backup QB. And I consider McKown a competent backup.

The idea of proceeding with Jamiel Showers as our QB2 in the interim is crazy in my book. We absolutely have to have a veteran backup to Romo. And waiting farther into camp if one is available in exchange for a trivial draft pick is playing with fire.

I've said repeatedly that we failed significantly this season not bringing in a vet QB2. That said, we're in this boat now because of a season ending injury to our guy. Having to spend a pick or cash now to replace him is just what you have to do when you lose your guy for the year.

Just find a player you can live with and get him in here and start moving forward again.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather have Austin Davis over McCown. I wanted him as QB2 last year over Weeden.

Romo did that all throughout 2014. Sometimes a free rusher gets through. Think about how many times in the last 2 or 3 seasons alone a free rusher has come and had a kill shot on Romo and he escaped, not because he wants to run around but instead out necessity. Watt and Cox should have killed him in '14. Neither layed a hand on him.

Kind of silly to say Romo needs to live for another day imo.

I'd rather think of all the times he'd just throw it away.

Not so silly, really.

Austin Davis makes sense, too. And he's more likely to be available.

Whoever they bring in, it's likely for a one year rental anyway because I think they really do like Moore a fair amount. If we give up a pick, it needs to be with that in mind.

I did too.

But why sign a guy for free when you can give up compensation too?

The Browns see McCown as their QB2...their rock in case RGIII can't cut it. Kessler is their project. Davis has shown that he can step up at be a QB2 in games. Basically, that whole QB roster is filled with QB2's, with Davis being the odd man out. Not only would he be the cheapest to trade for with the Browns, he would be the only one they'd offer up.

He will probably be cut if RGIII shows something in Camp. Unfortunately, that would mean that he will miss our T/C...and that's not good for a QB expected to back-up Romo in THIS Offensive scheme.

Yep. Depending which guy is the odd man out, that's the one we should target for an inexpensive trade. The Browns know one of those guys will be on the street in a few weeks. Flip him for a late pick and add a camp arm from the street. Makes sense for both teams. The only issue is the price.

broaddus just said on the break that he was told stephen jones is absolutely against giving up a draft pick right now.

Sounds like no move is going to be made anytime soon. This is really irritating to me as a fan, now all the offensive players will have to play at the pace of two qbs in dak and showers who have no idea what they are doing. That affects everything.

I think Rivers wins with that pass rush as well. Eli has had his moments but I will always see him as a chucker whos wrs manage to make insanely ridiculous catches. Rivers seems to fizzle out and my hatred is obvious but Id still take Rivers over Eli.

I don't think I would. Manning never gives up or gets frustrated. I feel like Rivers is thought more highly of because he plays so far away from the spotlight. he is very good but he has never played with any pressure on him at all. Everyone around him takes the fall all the time and he is as mistake prone as they come.

Had rivers had to play in NY under the spotlight under an extremely demanding coach at a time when the NFC east was outstanding I am not sure he holds up like Manning has. He would have run his mouth constantly and I think he would be one of the most hated players in the league had he been in NY all these years.

Weigh in on this one guys:

Trade Ron Leary for Barkevious Mingo and Austin Davis.

Would any of you make that deal?

I think I would.

It's not the worst idea. I actually thought Austin Davis played quite well when he played for the Rams. Mingo would be a thrown-in to see if you can get some sort of production out of.

So you consider $4 million "competent backup" money? When they wouldn't pay Matt Moore $3.5 for two years?

The idea of proceeding with Jamiel Showers as our QB2 in the interim is crazy in my book. We absolutely have to have a veteran backup to Romo. And waiting farther into camp if one is available in exchange for a trivial draft pick is playing with fire.

Far less "crazy" than getting pantsed by some team who knows you're desperate. Buffalo fleeced them on Matt Cassel and a $2 million contract. I have no desire to repeat that experience, only worse this time.

I've said repeatedly that we failed significantly this season not bringing in a vet QB2. That said, we're in this boat now because of a season ending injury to our guy. Having to spend a pick or cash now to replace him is just what you have to do when you lose your guy for the year.

I agree with the "failure" part, and how! But I'm not for following up one mistake by making an even bigger one.
