Not any more devoid than we were before he was made captain, though. We knew we didn't have anybody who can really play on defense. The best athletes we've got are guys like Mo and McClain or Melton who aren't going to be given a leadership roles because they have other issues or have not been with the team long enough.

This was going to be hard enough before Lee went down and Scandrick was suspended.

Durant is an athlete.

That's pretty telling about Carr IMO, he's not the same player he is here that he was in KC.

He's the exact same player. He just doesnt have any talent up front. He was paid to be an impact player in Dallas and now you're seeing he's not capable of it. He's the guy who needs others around him to make him better, not the other way around.

It was a fatal flaw of the 2012 off season to invest so much in those two cornerbacks and it never would have happened if our GM and our VP of Personnel were legitimate.

Are we the only team in the league with a kicker as a captain? I love Bailey, but seriously?

A lot of people seem to think: Most Talent = Leader, or Best Player = Leader. It tells me they don't understand leadership at all.

The team votes and the best men are selected. Which is what happened this year. People are in dream world about Dez being a captain ever. It would be like making TO captain. After Wit and Romo are gone Dez will still not be a captain ...that is if he is still around.

Was Irvin a captain?

Agreed, and it's nothing personal against Bailey who does a good job. But he's a football noncombatant. The only place he would be capable of leading me would be to the bank.

Let's hope that Lee getting injured propelled Durant to this spot. Outside or Romo and Church...I am not much of a fan of this list.

Witten is like a 9 time pro bowler and future HOF'er.

Won the Walter Payton award for the 2013 season.

How many of those players are around the league and how many teams you think have that guy playing for them?

That guy's going to be a captain and rightfully so.

Sorry...I will never have many fond memories of this era of Cowboys football. Only frustration....not accusing you...but I don't think many fans really understand how futile it has been. I think the Commanders, Cowbys and Lions are the only NFC teams to not play in the NFC title game over the last 15 or 20 years. That proves that the NFL is setup for everyone to at least have a chance every now and then. And for an organization like Dallas...that has probably played in the most NFC title games during the Super Bowl era...to be in a 20 year drought...is indicative how bad it has been. I mean Eugne Lockhart racked up like some ridiculous number of tackles...I think Derrick Hambrick did as well...not saying Ware, Romo, Witten are not better than these guys...but wha I am saying is that all the stats will not leave much of impression for fans that remember the Cowboys winning since as far back as the 70s

I respect Witten...I respect what he has accomplished. But how impactful has he been as a leader?

Witten's a great guy. Someone that Cowboy fans can be proud of. I understand your frustration though. I do think this is the most frustrating era of Cowboy football. At least when you're bad you can rebuild. When you're mediocre it's just a process that can take a lifetime.

Durant is an athlete.

He is. But he's also a journeyman who's bad trouble earning a regular starting position in Dallas prior to this season. I like the guy a lot for what he is, but it still says something when he's made Captain of your defense.

And he played well for us last year and well this camp.

I don't understand the Durant hate.

Of all our defenders....

I was among the very few who've noted his well he played for us last season. You don't have to remind me. It's not hate to say you're bereft of talent when a journeyman whose struggled to find a starting position on your team is named captain.

I don't really care who the captains are to worry if I disagree with any of them. That said, Romo and Witten are the obvious choices for the offense. Durant in Church are the obvious choices for the defense, I would have had Scandrick there if he weren't doing other things. I don't really know if I would have worried about making a ST guy one, but like I said, it doesn't really matter to me. I was able to muster 3 lines of effort for the topic.

Was M Irvin a captain? I don't know dude...I would guess that he very likely was the sole reason that the team came together and WAS a captain. Why do you ask? Dez is not Irvin that is FOR SURE

Dez Bryant isn't a captain. How far do we take this?

Also Captains don't necessarily have to be your best players. That's not what Captaincy means or is about.

I like that they picked Bailey over even Harris on Teams. Bailey is money, baby.

If I had to pick 1 captain, it would be Dez without question. The fact that he's not in the top 5 worries me. Hopefully this doesn't have anything to do with them failing to agree on a contract.

He is the closest thing we've had to him since he retired. I don't understand your Dez hate.

Why are you talking about CB's? I thought you said CB's are irrelevant? Now you say Carr is not good because of the front line? If the talent up front was better, would Carr make an impact?
