Cowboys need to resign Dak before Baker and Josh Allen reset the market

I said it last year . But if we truly intended in resigning Dak he will never be cheaper than what we could have signed him for last year. Which probably could have been closer to 35 which was the highest level at that time with Wilson. But we tried to undercut that.

Now the new Bar is closer to 40. And if we’re not willing to get closer to that we won’t get a deal done. There’s no going back to last years market.

Highest cap hits from 2014-19:
Matthew Stafford ($130M)
Ben Roethlisberger ($128M)
Aaron Rodgers ($126M)
Drew Brees ($125M)
Eli Manning ($124M)
Matt Ryan ($118M)
Philip Rivers ($117M)
Joe Flacco ($106M)
Cam Newton ($104M)
None won the Super Bowl during that time.

Food for thought.

Josh Allen and even Baker Mayfield are expected to command north of 38~40 million per year.

These are quarterbacks who both have career passer ratings over 10 ENTIRE points less than Dak (although Josh Allen has been improving)

That laughable 40 million per year price tag is going to be considered a steal in just 1 to 2 off seasons
Wouldn’t jerry have been off if he had let Dak walk and signed Tom Brady for 26 mil . We would be in the playoffs now . Instead we are going to pay 40 mil for Dak and then he will tank and get sloppy like zeke , and a bother 4-5 years are wasted .

What teams are winning Superbowls and paying their QB all the money?
The question is what teams are contending for Super Bowls without paying their QB?

But to answer your question . Currently there’s several QB’s being paid who have won SB’s and several been in multiple SB’s. Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rothleisburger and Wilson. This doesn’t count one who retired last year in Eli and another who’s not starting this year in Flacco. And others been in SB’s: Ryan, Goff.

That’s about 30% of the league. Which is an impressive number considering how many young QB’s we have currently on Rookie QB’s.

It’s a proven commodity that NFL teams do sign their Franchise QB long term.

That’s assuming Brady stayed upright all year. I think we can argue if Dak had stayed healthy we’d probably won worse division in the league pretty easily with 8-8 even with all of the other injuries we had.

The only reason we wouldn’t sign Dak is we don’t believe he’s a Franchise QB. Which isn’t necessarily an Elite QB. Many franchise QB aren’t .

But we know we have a top 5 -10 caliber offense with him. Why wouldn’t we want to resign him and build the defense thru the draft?

You are getting this wrong, for some odd reason. Bigben signed his first big contract in 08, after both of his super bowls.

Brees got paid after his super bowl win. As did Wilson. Rodgers got paid in 08, won in 09, hasn't sniffed one since.

It's like you tried to prove something, and proved the opposite. QB's who get paid often keep their teams from winning the super bowl.

But those teams remained contenders afterwards . And for the record Big Ben went to a SB again after being paid and still in position to do it again.

The bigger point as I stated isn’t just about winning SB’s but remaining consistent contenders for the SB. And those QB’s are the most critical component.

Winners reset the market. Losers get paid accordingly.

I think the Mahomes deal helps both sides really settle on what Dak's number should be.

1) It should not be as high as Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes is by far the best young QB in the game, if not the best player.
2) It showed how to structure the deal so the Cowboys can keep/add additional talent.

Mahomes made a commitment to the city of Kansas City with that contract. Not only did he literally buy a piece of the KC Royals, but he basically ensured his face will be on billboards, restaurants, and car dealerships all over Missouri for the next 40 to 50 years. As well as an executive position with the team after his playing days. Think John Elway in Denver.

No reason Dak can't strike a similar deal with the Dallas area.

And the salary they are being paid is keeping them from winning it.

You think Dak will suddenly drop his demand for a 4 year contract? What makes you think this?

And why when you find one you keep him and try to build the best you can around them.
So I take it you are in the sign Dak mindset at this point?
I know at one point you weren't sold.
What moved the needle for you? Marked improvement in accuracy since 2018?
Just wondering.
