Cowboys Over-Performed?

I'm going by the article too, I don't think it's lucky, but going by the article, it's a heck of a job to win win you're not suppose to.
They never said we weren't supposed to win. It just said so many games were very close that it could've gone either way.

Even with the level of play, THEY WON 10 GAMES THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE .
The coach has to get credit for it, just as he would if they lost those 10

every time somebody tries to blame losing on Garret you blame it on the players and execution.

Now when they win 10 games it has to be because of Garret? Nonsense

I don’t buy the argument that the team over achieved, at all. That’s nonsense given the overall talent level.

So Garret and the players get credit for having a good season and winning a playoff game. They also get blame for failing to get past the divisional round (again)

From your lips to God's ears.

I don't expect Dallas to go high priced FA. I do expect to see Cooper, Dak, Zeke and Dlaw get contracts extended. I think a deal with Earl Thomas could be done if he truly wants to end his career in Dallas but would not think it would be the contract he was asking for in Seattle. We will see.

The Cowboys 2018 roster was 1 of the most talented versions since about 1996. Definitely top 3 in that span, if not #1.
I think I'd still take 2007. But, otherwise, you are right. This team has talent in a lot of places.

To me that is ones view depending what people predicted to start the season. Many here predicted 5 to 6 wins, you would think they would claim this team exceeded their expectation but does not seem to be the case. Myself I predicted this team would win the NFC East I figured that would take a 11-5 or 10-6 record so Cowboys lived up to what I felt they would do. Post season it was great to see them beat the Seahawks but just could not get over the hump the following week. I do keep in mind this is a young team and hopefully with a some addition through FA and the draft this team can get over that hump. I fully expect them to challenge this next season.

Most of the fans that predicted 11-5 or 10-6 bought into the front office belief that the team was just fine without a #1 WR and a weak receiving corps.

Most of us that predicted 6 or 7 wins recognized how bad they were going to be with the receiving corps they had heading into the season.

I doubt either group was anticipating using the next year's first round pick halfway through the season to correct their mistake.

I don’t think Earl Thomas will happen now. He’s older, coming off a season ending injury, and will be expensive even if he takes less to go to Dallas. That isn’t a free agent recipe that Dallas likes these days.

It could happen, but I don’t think it will. IMO they’ll spend their money elsewhere... and I agree with you that it’ll be, in large part, spent on their own guys.

Which is pretty much the life of a troll. Totally agenda driven. The more I follow this forum the less I like it. Unfortunately like much of Social Media a noisy minority’s drives it.
Don't be mad that most fans don't give Garrett a pass like you do.

But yet they give Jerry a pass with a continued support financially of the Cowboys however indirect it is which is the only thing that will curb Jerry’s ways.

Garrett is just a product of our dysfunctional organization. And I’d argue one of the best influencing parts of the dysfunction.

We’ve seen what Jerry and Stephen are without a great team that Jimmy built. Worse than we’ve had with Garrett. Even Parcells couldn’t do better.

IMO Garrett has prevented this franchise from slumping further into an abyss much like Romo did.

Continuing to hope for an Absolution from Jerry that will never come is the most senseless And unfounded notion.

We as Cowboys fans know that a lot of our close games were not as close as the final score would indicate.....because we watched the games. Late scores on the defense ect.

Same could be said about the divisional much more a blowout than the actual score showed.

no I had them at 9-11 wins but im fan and saw a 13-3 team struggle to 9-7 because of a rash of injuries and zekes suspension..you take that away and I saw a 2 game improve would be max and match it for similar issues, came up with 10..they did not over achieve this is a team that will hover around 9-11 wins and have shot at the playoffs with limited injurys to key players..

we arent bad , anyone saying 6 wins didnt see just about everything go wrong in 2017 and we still pulled out 9 wins..so IMO we would have underachieved at anything under 9..
Garett should get credit not for the 10 wins alone not for the big turnaround because he was responsible for the 3-5 start to begin with but for sure at keeping this young team hungry and they did NOT quit on him..he has to get credit for that, if they felt the way a lot of you do about Jason, they could have easily got him fired by quitting and for sure 5-11 would have sealed his fate..

I know we got Jason maybe for another year but he did keep the teams heads high and pushing hard to get to the playoffs and a playoff win..

They would be correct. Our defense was historically bad and Zeke was held to 47 yards rushing. If the defense could have gotten a stop the Rams may have pulled a Falcons. We had no business being in that game at the end.

I still think if Parcells had coached ten years here then he would have gotten this team a lot further, probably multiple times.

no we didnt know for one that dez would be let go it happened late as did the Witten retiring..those were hard to overcome..they did go after Sammy Watkins, im glad he didnt come here although he would have been better to stafrt the season with then what we had but I like Cooper more and good things do come to those that wait.. BTW for all the forgetful fans there were a lot and I mean a lot of open TE and Receiver those first 8 games that got overlooked or flat out missed, some of those games were close losses due to bad coaching calls r in the Washington game a bad call on the ref.. stuff happens..the Line coach got fired , Cwil got replaced by injury, and Zeke was leaned on heavily in the turnaround , this wasn't all about Cooper but it helped a lot..

This 9 year BS is just using a narrative to support your opinion.

This the 2nd team Garrett has had to restructure . The 1st one ended with Romo and another begun with Dak. These are almost 2 completely different rosters.

And what exactly are we being patient for. Like if it doesn’t culminate into a championship it’s a total failure. Lol

I think you missed your meds today. Check with your nurse. Let me try to educate you. Rosters turnover across the league. Average career is about 3 years so you do the math. Did KC effect a smooth transition? Did Baltimore? How about the Texans? Did Philly even have another era? Garrett has been there 9 years. 2 playoff wins. If you want to compare to Miami or Cleveland that’s a success. Should not the goal be elite. Those are facts not narrative. Remember the meds.

That "mistake" resulted in Leighton Vander Esch.

Dallas' first round picks in recent years are basically:
  • Tyron Smith
  • Byron Jones
  • Travis Frederick
  • Zack Martin
  • Zeke Elliott
  • Taco Charlton
  • Leighton Vander Esch
Then throw in La'el Collins, Jaylon Smith, Chido Awuzie, Michael Gallup, and a 4th-rounder on Dak Prescott....and you simply can't argue with the talent acquisition in recent years.

You clearly don't know what the article says if you keep pushing this angle of this article being proof of the job Garrett did. If you want to say Garrett did a really good job, great. But that wasn't the point of this article and to jump into this thread to use this article as support for that position is strange.

The article really has zero to do with the actual talent on the roster or the coaching job the coach did.

The article in a nutshell says , because of the way the team played, (performance ) they're lucky to win 10, first that's b's to start. What I'm saying is regardless of performance, or how they played, they won 10 games. That's a good coaching job, to get those win.
As far as next year , there's no reason to address it because this year's team has nothing to do with next year's team and how they'll play.

They never said we weren't supposed to win. It just said so many games were very close that it could've gone either way.

I know this and that we were lucky to win, is what they said, the bottom line is they did win those close games. Good coaching.

The "mistake" I'm talking about was them entering 2018 thinking their receiving corps was adequate.

Yeah I blame losing on execution, and it is i also say winning is execution and ultimately players, in this case of for all the blaming of the coach for losing and then don't give the credit for winning is asinine. You same poster that cry about coach when it's bad, don't give any credit win it's good.
