Cowboys QB contract situation

According to Spotrac, Dak right now counts 59 mil against the cap in 2024.

The cowboys are right now projected to be 11 million over the cap.

The cowboys can’t carry a cap number that high for the QB. So their two options are: extend him or cut him.

Extending him allows them to spread money out further down the line and save space on the cap on 2024.

Cutting him post June 1 saves them 31 mil in 2024.

cutting him would save 18 mil against the cap.

Dak’s contract was designed to either be extended this offseason OR for the cowboys to move on.

As such, now’s the time to move on. You can’t extend Dak given how things went down again this season.

Cutting him plus making other moves with some contracts (cut Gallup, restructure players, resign Ceedee, etc) will add additional cap space putting the cowboys in actually decent shape cap wise.

The time has come to cut him and move on. Whether that’s giving Lance a season to see what he has or drafting a QB right away THIS offseason.

The time has come.
Yup.

I've been posting about this for a while.

The money side of the NFL can be brutal for these players.

Now we know why the Lance trade was made.

Cutting a 30 year old QB that will be in the top 3 of MVP votes is exactly what happens in Cowboys land. Unprecedented type situation. Old Jerry needs to keep people coming to his big top circus and he can’t have the plebeians thinking he is the problem so a deflection strategy will be unleashed. It’s truly remarkable how screwed up this franchise is.

No matter what, Cowboys have to cut Dak. The reason is Cowboys players need to know one thing. If you can't perform, you get cut. We don't care if you have good stat to support. You don't perform in playoff, you are gone.

He's won 2 playoff games in 8 years, and looked pretty bad in most of the postseason losses. Sure, keep running it back and expecting different results.

I'd just as soon try something else. It may not work, but with 4 playoff wins since the 90s I'm kind of used to it not working.

Kinda funny how different the narrative is between Dak and Russell Wilson.

People are saying you absolutely cannot release Dak due to the contract situation, but seems to be a foregone conclusion that Denver will move on from Wilson.

CJ Stroud says hello
CJ has a lot more arm talent then Dak. If Dak doesn't have perfect footwork his accuracy and velocity turn to crap. Guys like CJ and Love (and others) can make throws from awkward positions that Dak could never make.

Falcons ate Matt Ryan’s contract for his last year there too. Sometimes you just need to cut bait. Luckily for us we have an intriguing top-5 pick that we can experiment with for cheap

I think Belichick said that he likes Dak.
He says he likes every opposing QB. He knows Dak can't play in the big moments, and he knows you have to have a QB who can. If Belichick does come here, which I highly doubt, he will insist they cut or trade Dak. There is simply no way to win a Super Bowl with Dak under center. And I've been a Dak apologist his entire career.
