Cowboys QB contract situation

And a lot of teams continue to fail year after year after year.

How many examples are there of QB’s who are 30 years old, have never really won anything in the playoffs, all of a sudden becoming successful on the back half of their careers? Barely ever happens.

Furthermore, the cowboys can barely get past the wildcard game with Dak. What’s the negative in doing a 2-3 year retool? They aren’t winning the superbowl in the next 2-3 years as is. Not gonna happen.

Yeah Jerry probably won’t do it. But that’s because he is a bad GM.

Lastly, no team will offer just compensation? The browns literally traded for a rapist at QB. Teams have traded for Jimmy Garappolo, they’ve traded for Carson Wentz, etc.

You think the cowboys can’t get picks for Dak? Nah. A sign and trade is very possible.
Stafford did it.

Cutting him means we are going full rebuild. Probably means that extending Micah or CeeDee is almost pointless.

We’d have to bottom out next year, win like 3-5 games to have a chance to draft a new potential franchise QB.

Either that or just get really really lucky and luck is not a strategy.

You ready to do that?

If so, then I can at least respect it because it’s at least sane. Thinking that we can immediately contend without a franchise QB is nonsense though.
The cowboys aren’t contending now.

For those wanting to cut Dak, it would obviously be better to trade him to a. Team
Willing to make him the highest paid QB in the league but you have to keep in mind that Dak has a no trade clause which makes several destinations all but impossible to even consider.

No one wants him esp if you're looking for top picks.
Think please who the heck wants this Deer in the playoff headlights leading their team for a ton of cap cash no less?
WHO???????

Yes...let's cut him and pick high in the draft for the foreseeable future. Great idea.

Literally just had an MVP type season and people want to cut him because of a pick 6...lol

How about we get a good defense that actually can get some stops so a few mistakes don't turn into people thinking this is a madden offseason?
did you watch the game

If he were a free agent there are several teams who would be calling him immediately with max offers. You know this even if you won’t admit it.

Not saying they *should* but they definitely *would*.

They mention a lot of inaccurate info on the telecast. Ya know...like the first pick wasn't a PI....
They're top pass rusher wasn't in on those series. I noticed that. And even the head analyst said it was a legit no call on that interception

Will see as he will be a pre-June 1st 2024 cut this spring and I have a feeling demand for his services will not be what you're expecting.

Do you see him hold Cooks out of the break and then pull himself forward for the pick?

This is a PI....100%

So you're not gonna count the dropped picks? Are you also gonna ignore the false start Dallas had before halftime that they didn't call?

That was not PI

Why do you think it wasn't a PI? Don't tell me they both had a right to the ball either lol. You can have a right to the ball and not hold the wr and slingshot yourself off of him for a pick lol

Name a team won with rookie qb. Mahomes exception. Not drafting 25. You gotta suck for 2-3 years. That’s problem. Gotta tank.
This isn't your father's NFL where QBs drafted sit for years.
A decent rookie on a solid team can compete.
Look at SF, they drafted a QB with the last pick in the NFL draft and he's playing solid.
Russell Wilson was a 4th rd pick.
Houston has CJ Stroud.
Jordan Love is the exception to the rule with QBs today.

Hurts, Mahomes, Purdy, Burrow were all either in the SB or CCG in 3 years. The tone and leader of the team is the QB. If that isn't right the rest of the team won't be. You have to start over some time. What we have now is not working.
I agree 100%

According to Spotrac, Dak right now counts 59 mil against the cap in 2024.

The cowboys are right now projected to be 11 million over the cap.

The cowboys can’t carry a cap number that high for the QB. So their two options are: extend him or cut him.

Extending him allows them to spread money out further down the line and save space on the cap on 2024.

Cutting him post June 1 saves them 31 mil in 2024.

cutting him would save 18 mil against the cap.

Dak’s contract was designed to either be extended this offseason OR for the cowboys to move on.

As such, now’s the time to move on. You can’t extend Dak given how things went down again this season.

Cutting him plus making other moves with some contracts (cut Gallup, restructure players, resign Ceedee, etc) will add additional cap space putting the cowboys in actually decent shape cap wise.

The time has come to cut him and move on. Whether that’s giving Lance a season to see what he has or drafting a QB right away THIS offseason.

The time has come.
Do you think if we decide to move on from Dak as a post June 1st move he would want to ask to be traded earlier to find the right team for him rather then later.

All I know is Jerry/ Stephen were taken to the woodshed by Dak and his agent. What a dumb extension....he literally holds this franchise by the balls right now

Sometimes you have to take a few steps back to go forward. This Cowboy’s team of today, has gone as far as they are going to go. Blow it up! New HC, QB and a major roster turnover. I don’t care if we win 4 games next season. It’s better than this one and done in the playoffs with the same guy for the past 9 seasons.

No point continuing to throw good money after bad. Let him move on.

The time has come man. I gave him the benefit of the doubt longer than most.

Our FO’s only chance of winning a championship, is to somehow land a true elite, franchise QB that’s top 1-3 in the league.
I'm so proud of you.

Now about the current player you're worshipping.....
