Sure but it's not like you guys aren't eating or eventually going to eat big cap hits either. You had to take one for Wentz when he was playing in Indy.
Yeah but there was incentive to move on from him, namely a 1 and a 3. And he was at the beginning of his deal, Gallup was at the end. Maybe it’s more the structure of his contract I’m chastising than the move itself. How does he have so much dead cap left when it was only a 3 year deal and he already completed 2 of them?

The problem is Cowboys don’t trade talent. Coop is the only one and I honestly can’t even speak why teams didn’t want to offer more.

But if Cowboys traded Micah or Lamb they’d get a nice haul. You can’t get compensation for trash you don’t want.
Remember when the Bengals were offering a 2nd rd pick for Martellus Bennett and Jerry said no? Martellus ended up walking for nothing in free agency. This is the stuff you can't make up with this Front office.

Who made the decision to trade Cooper and then resign Gallup coming off of in ACL injury?
:hammer:

That really is what is boils down to.

All conjecture... who knows if CeeDee grows into the #1 with Coop still here. Battling egos and all that... but yeah, starts to look like Coop vs Gallup instead of Coop vs CeeDee, ESPECIALLY after the Browns re-negotiated his contract down closer to Gallup numbers.

Ignoring his contract, Gallup was a decent depth piece. He isn't a starting caliber WR, but he's not garbage either. I understand releasing him for cap reasons, but this is yet one more hole Dallas has to fill.

Utter and colossal fail by the FO when they resigned him to that deal.
There was a story about this, on the team website months ago. It could have been one of the podcasts but straight from the horse’s mouth. Gallup admitted that he was shocked when it happened. He actually thought he was about to get cut. This was the offseason after the ACL injury when they gave him the extension.

The decision to keep Gallup over Cooper is haunting them on this day. Gallup, the younger/cheaper receiver just never could return to form after tearing his acl. What we saw the last 2 seasons was not a NFL caliber player any longer.
