Well that's it. Ratliff was a 7th rounder and I'm not going to riff on this kid for at least a season. Let's see where he's at after a year's experience and weight training under a pro-staff.

The exact things said about Ivie were said about Ratliff

I didn't think much about this guy until I watched the East Carolina game. Dude is quick, very active and all over the field, strong and hard to block but needs to finish the play. It's easy and lazy to compare Hayden with Ivie. White, DT and what else??? Hayden never had that kind of quickness, and Ivie showed in that one game more pass rush ability than Hayden ever did. Not saying he's going to make the team but there's a lot to like if you just look for it.

Anytime I see Rod that happy its usually for an underdog kid with a huge motor.

Lazy talented guys don't seem to be his thing.
Which is why we never were going to draft McDowell early.

They brought him in to do their due diligence just in case he slipped all the way down to the 60th pick or something... but they wouldn't spend a first on a guy like that these days.

Hard not to like the pick. Collins was picked in the third round last year missed training camp and ended up starting and getting five sacks. They've shown the ability to find guys outside of the first round.

That's it.

The chances are the kid will be around for a year or two and then disappear when a fresh influx of dlinemen come onboard. But you never know. He could become a perfectly capable rotation player in a year or two.

This pick has been getting a lot more praise than you'd expect.

I think he makes the roster. Carrell doesn't.

I think Carrell was a Jim Jeffcoat call to Lett to come take a look. He said Lett was the only one who worked him out and during the draft only the Cowboys and Bills called about possibly joining as a UDFA.

From the 1st rd pick to the UDFA I will give them the chance to prove themselves on the field. just looking at Ivie I think the kid needs to put in a lot of time in the weight room to increase overall strength, right now he relies on his quickness but will need more than that at the next level.

I actually like this pick. Something tells me he's going to be a junkyard dog type of fan favorite backup.

I would hope not. I hope we're not letting assistant coaches or former players effect our draft picks. Even late rounders.

Ratliff had the tweener label. Was he a DE or a DT or neither?

Nobody's wondering whether Ivie is a natural DE.

Most ppl on the forums said Ratliff was a camp body and a waste of a pick. The tweener label was not a thing online.

A player with high physical traits that good coaching could develop into something.

Rod likes this guy entirely because of his quick hands and his ability to shoot gaps. Same reason he was high on Collins last year.

What's concerning from the draft write ups, at least, is the inability to anchor in the running game stuff. I'm going to assume that that's a function of getting too high and something the team thinks it can fix with technique. I have a hard time figuring how the guy makes the roster, though, other than in the event of injury someplace. Still, looking forward to seeing him play in the preseason.

I know Hayden is a punching bag here and obviously is/was a journeyman, although he has found a way to stick around the NFL for 7 years now. I would think Ivie and Carrell would sign up for that right away.
