He said a 12 person jury, maybe you should learn how to read.

You still don't get it do you. The jury cried when they found out what they had done. The Supreme Court SAID you had no business even trying him on the felony. YOU made a mistake. We are reversing it. He has no felony record now. He probably has purged the other.

At 6-foot-4, 294 pounds, Dixon, 23, is a gifted pass-rusher, a commodity NFL teams prize above all but quarterbacks. This spring, he was one of 350 players invited to the NFL combine in Indianapolis, where he ran a 5.2-second 40-yard dash and bench-pressed 225 pounds 21 times, and his vertical jump was 26 inches.

He'd be fortunate if he makes the practice squad. His measurables are nothing to write home about, and the strength he'll need to compete will require at least a year in the weight room.

yep, slow and not that strong. never seen him play and i hope the "gifted pass-rusher" stuff is real otherwise he's camp fodder.

Yeah. A jury of 12 originally acquitted him of rape but because of the statutory rape clause in the state of Georgia he went to jail. Since the Supreme Court overturned everything he has no record.

The jury acquitted Dixon of rape, battery, assault and false imprisonment but because Brown was only 15 3/4 at the time of the incident found him guilty of statutory rape and aggravated child molestation. Because of this Dixon was convicted at the mandatory amount under Georgia law, 10 years imprisonment.[3] Ironically if he would have been found guilty he would have faced a much less severe punishment.
Georgia Supreme Court overturned Dixon's conviction and he was released May 3, 2004. They let his conviction of misdemeanor statutory rape stand.

great book, along w/ D-Day and Pegasus Bridge, all by the same author, Stephen Ambrose

pretty much everything he writes is gold
PM me a list of the books in the order I should read them.

Yes, I am serious.

Nice story Hostile. I love reading those kind of stories because they happen in every day life. Now I can't relate to many of you folks here who post about being a father (I am only 23 and finishing last year in college) but I can see where you all come from. If she were a year older (16) she would have been legal in England :D. There are some girls who are 16 and can look like they are 19. I have "flirted" with some thinking they were older until later on the night I find out they are still young :bang2:.

The jury decided it was consensual, what they did find him guilty of was being with an underaged girl since he was 18. They were going by the law at the time, not realizing(at least some of them) that the felony charge carried a ten year minimum. The Supreme Court of Georgia overturned it because that law wasn't meant for that situation(teenagers). That if it wasn't rape there was no law broken.

all this kid did was have sex with his gf......which is a biblical sin...but not against the law....

he did nothing wrong. It was all those bigots who cant get over their closeminded hatred of those who are different who were in the wrong.

they were willing to accept a lie as fact, instead of the truth.....they were going to crucify and ruin the life of an innocent young man, merely cause of the color of his skin.....all he was doing was loving his girlfriend. There is nothing wrong with that.......unless u live in that racist town.

Wow, just wow. It is against the law when your "girlfriend" is a minor and you're an adult. Race has nothing to do with it. It was so racist in fact that the jury of 9 whites and 3 blacks aquitted Dixon of the most serious charges since the rape was consensual.

You may have a problem with the law itself and I wouldn't disagree, but if he was a victim of his skin color, the predominantly white jury would have railroaded him. That didn't happen and the verdict was unanimous in both his innocense and guilt.

And that nasty place was so racist in fact that they overlooked his two prior indiscretions, one for exposing himself in class and the other for inappropriately "touching" a 14 year old girl. Law enforcement had to draw the line somewhere and they did.

I think the biggest problem was that the DA tried him for a law that was meant for when adults abuse children. Also the girls father is suppose to have said some remarks and it was believed the girl was just doing what her father wanted. That at least makes the DAs office look like it went after him for the wrong reasons. And according to him the inappropriate touching was actually making out with a girl.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

i saw his story on that HBO show with costas and gumble.....i have been rooting for him ever since.....

he is truly a victim of racism and discrimination........and i am glad to see that he has been able to perservere over beyond all the bigotry that has been sent his way.

i also applaud his white adopted family for sticking behind him and believing in him........and not merely losing faith and tossing him to the curb. Cause, it would have been easy to turn their backs on him and let this unjust racism prevail....however, they stuck with him and by him and helped him succeed and eventually bring truth to the surface.......

This is one guy I will be rooting for..........

Welcome to the Cowboys Marcus.........

He will be at the top of my "To Root For" list. It is a very touching story. It is also a sad story as it points out that even in American Justice System there is no doubt many people who are incarcerated who shouldn't be there. Lately a lot of prisoners have been freed because their DNA tests proved they were innocent.

I'm glad the law was changed Speed. But the judge, jury and the DA applied the law as it was written. And I wouldn't want a jury to not convict someone because they may feel the sentence might be too harsh. There's nothing racial about it. I know someone who has a record because he was making out with a minor and the police happened to roll up on them. He's white and he was charged and has a conviction on his record.

QFT!!!, if only I hadn't had my head up my *** when I was younger and gotten to know more of them...amazing time in our history, if only they could have realized that like there is no aethism in a foxhole, I don't believe there would have been racism either. We could have advanced civil rights by 20 years if segregatoin of the troops wasn't in effect. Amazing generation nonetheless.

I have never read it even though it has been recommended to me several times. I need to get off my trash.

Dude!! Have you at least seen the movie series?

If not, its the best 80 bucks you'll ever spend, at least go rent it sometime on a rainy weekend. I've read the book too, but the movie is better, IMHO. I've watched the movie at least half a dozen times. The movie is fantastically produced and is incredibly moving, not at all about blood and guts, but the stories and relationships behind their experiences.

No, you misunderstand then, the Supreme Court said that the laws the DA was using should not have been used in this case. Thats why they threw the decision out. They changed the law because this DA wasn't the only one in Georgia to abuse this law.

Two here too. 15 and 11. My 15 year old is a head turner. Last year 2 boys got into a fist fight over who was going to take her to the school dance. I solved that, she didn't go. She was 14. When she was 12 a boy who was 15 asked her out. She made me very proud with her response.

"Have you seen my Dad?"

She's a good kid. So is Dustin, the boy she likes. He doesn't like the Cowboys. That's the only bad thing I can really say about him. He's hilarious. I've told WG and a couple of other people stories about him. Kid is a total crack up. I'd share a couple of stories but people would take them wrong. They are totally innocent and totally funny, but people take everything wrong if they want to.

Man, you guys are lightweights. I have 4 daughters. 15, 13, 11 and 10.

I have not seen the movie series either. My dad loves it and never stops telling me I need to. I hate doing that until I read the book first.

Bob sent me the list and I will start getting the books and reading them.

The law may have been flawed (and it obviously was), but it was applied as it was written. Thus, the additional Romeo and Juliet laws to distinguish this type of conduct from young adults to those of sexual sexual predators. From the article:

"Because Dixon was 18 and Brown was 15, what transpired between them, according to Georgia law as it was written, was technically aggravated child molestation. The statute was enacted to protect children from adult predators, but in recent years other states have passed so-called Romeo and Juliet laws to distinguish between full-fledged adults and 18- and 19-year-olds."

Enjoy, you'll find out the list of books isn't long enough. Ambrose appears to have devoted his life to documenting the stories and people of WW2 before he passed.
