Nice signing!! I like it! A new DE, and he's a solid pass rusher! I'm liking the moves that Jerry's making today. Urban and Basham are excellent players that we haven't spent much for. I'm really hoping we get Kyle Fuller next! He just got released by Chicago, and we very much need his services! He and Diggs would give us 2 excellent CBs.

That's high hopes for a team that doesn't spend much on outside FAs.

Although I hope we do more at corner, I wouldn't be surprised if we stand pat there after re-signing Lewis. I won't be surprised if free safety is next with Dallas either re-signing Woods or bringing in someone like Kazee. I could see them taking a flyer on Hooker since he won't cost much due to his injury history. Not saying those are the moves I would make, but it's what I could see the team doing.

I'd like to see us get a bona fide starting corner, so I hope I'm wrong about that.

I just read this thread and have to say that I am less informed than when I began.

There was 1 video his play but it has mostly been snark from the usual suspects mad that the "starters" they wanted were not signed.

There was 1 post about how football is actually played on the field.

This board has become extra ******.

I can see that. I'd love to have Fuller though cuz he wouldn't cost us a comp pick, and it might help us have to emphasize less on CB, and more on S.

Hope this doesn’t mean we’re not signing Aldon Smith!

Curious what people’s love is with Aldon Smith?

I really did love the signing at the time. I remembered how he started his career - he seemed a lock for the Hall, and bought the Jay Glazer hype.

But after a fast start, dude just burned out quick. He’s going to want decent money and he’s a rotational player at best and not a starter in this league.

I really hope we don't re-signs Woods. I'd prefer fresh blood at the position.

Oh it is.

Because at least guys like McCoy, Griffen, and Poe had at one point in their careers actually been really good. The guys we are signing haven't sniffed "good" ever.
Haters gonna hate.

This defensive line was paper thin and the Cowboys got three experienced veterans at a bargain cost to fill rotational roles today.

Nobody is expecting Basham, Watkins, or Urban to be all-pros. But it's new blood for the league's 31st ranked run defense. At the very least the Cowboys can't be accused of standing pat with what they have. Personally, I'm pleased with all three signings.
I'd take one solid starter for the cost of 3 journeymen. If you are almost last in run D, you would think more drastic measures would be taken as opposed to signing back ups and hoping it will change things.

The foundation is the problem is more of the problem. We still don't really know who should be starting there after being 31st in run D. A draft pick would help, but a good Vet starter would be even better.

That said I like these types of picks when FA is drying up, but first week? You're intentionally not seeking out talent to start and it's frustrating tbh

LOL.

This is the year we sign bargain bin guys early?

They are just signing roster bodies. In no world can the Jones boys think that these guys make us much better on defense.
32 QB pressures last year. It’s not all a bout sacks, except for ignorant fans, but pressuring the QB is just about as good. Solid, solid signing.

Right. People just remember the fast 5 sacks in the first 3 games or so. They forget he was done after that. They also forget the rumblings he wanted out of dallas.

ok, not bad, not great, another solid vet/depth guy to help fill the holes before the draft

Not sure why everyone is so upset? I mean, didn't you realize these were exactly the kinds of guys we were going to be signing? Did you honestly think they would go spend a bunch of $ on top names? So why then are you now upset that they actually signed a couple no name, solid rotational players?

Basham reminds me so much of Tony Tolbert. Not as undersized..but the way he plays. He can hone his skills and maybe add some bull rush to his arsenal..then we might have something. IMO he was used wrong since hes been in the league. They used him as a stand up OLB/DE...which is not what he is. He is a pass rush specialist IMO..and should be used as such in a rotational aspect..like Robert Quinn. He has more potential than Quinn though. I like that signing as long as we continue to address the interior dline. If we dont fix the middle, he wont help us much.

Football at any level is about first stopping the run and THEN getting to the QB quickly to disrupt, we did both very poorly in 2020. We also need to see ANAE get a shot and see what he can do. I have a hunch the kid will be a beast. Will MM and QUINN let the kid on the field?

Good find. Both these tweets sound good.

They don’t have the money to fill all of the holes on defense. They can sign enough players to field a team, but it will not be a good one. They need to sign ,at the very least , a couple of above average starters and they don’t have the money to sign them.

If you liked what Randy Gregory did last year you will like him
They had almost identical stats in almost identical number of games

I actually like their signings so far to be honest. These guys not sexy picks just good rotational guys that can start
if needed and give you a solid output. Our team needed to improve their depth and thats what they are doing right now.

Aldon Smith looked strong and aggressive early in the season last year. By the halfway point, he had slowed down tremendously. Maybe that's what has caused the Cowboys to be hesitant about bringing Aldon back? Or maybe, Aldon is asking for too much money to resign? Basham only cost $3 mil / year to sign.

You would expect him to wear down throughout the season after being out of the league for five years but for him to be out of the league for that long and come in in immediately are be our best player on defense says a lot. And now they want to get rid of him? Genius!
