Basham was a starter for 9 games last year and now you are going to have him in a rotational role with Gregory starting and I think they believe he is ready. What has stopped Gregory mostly has been the suspensions. With the new rules it seems like we will not have those issues moving forward.

I miss the old no cap days where you could throw money at every issue but that is not today's NFL.
They don't have much money in Gregory.

Armstrongs role should solely be special teams where hes pretty good.

This defensive line was paper thin and the Cowboys got three experienced veterans at a bargain cost to fill rotational roles today.

Nobody is expecting Basham, Watkins, or Urban to be all-pros. But it's new blood for the league's 31st ranked run defense. At the very least the Cowboys can't be accused of standing pat with what they have. Personally, I'm pleased with all three signings.

THis is what we were going to be able to afford.

Who was that annoying gnat of a poster who was throwing 3rd grade insults at me because I didn't think we had the salary cap room to be active in FA? I'm sure he's not adult enough to own it.

Wish all those crying about the signings could just take over and save the franchise with their expertise!

decent. But again, why worry all the time about depth and not a quality STARTER? lol

I do too but us fans get pissed when they do that. I have no issue with it. Yeah, it failed with Crawford but I'd still do it. The failure with Crawford was not admitting your mistake sooner.

Bringing back Crawford at that price from an injury was just dumb in 2019. Doing it *again*
in 2020 was grotesque.

Similar to the Olawale deal. They don't use him one year, then bring him back the next o a 3 year contract, and *don't* use him again.

Lots of bad contracts getting off the books at least.

They don't have much money in Gregory.

And that is a good thing for this year, but you were talking about bringing in another starting edge FA, which would be in the 7-12M a year range, especially if you believe Randy is your starter and you have to pay him next year.

I'm sure Gregory's agent is no dummy.

Tell you what, this is one dude who BETTER give Jerry a damn discount if he finally puts it all together this year.

If anyone ever owed anyone anything....its Gregory to Jerry.

No, what I am saying is at the time of their signing, guys like Poe and McCoy were guys that at least had a track record of high level play at some point in their careers. Griffen almost had 10 sacks in 2019 before we signed him.

These guys are just JAGs, with no real track record of anything but mediocre play. They are roster bodies, back up types.

We've seen this before over and over. Watkins and Urban are Thornton and Covington. We've tried this patchwork stuff before and it's never worked. Maybe instead of paying two JAGs at DT, pool their money, add a little bit more and get a starting caliber DT?
Newsflash! You need 9-10 D linemen. In other words, Backups. Get it. I suspect we’re going to draft a 1T to be a starter. We’ll see.

Nice signing!! I like it! A new DE, and he's a solid pass rusher! I'm liking the moves that Jerry's making today. Urban and Basham are excellent players that we haven't spent much for. I'm really hoping we get Kyle Fuller next! He just got released by Chicago, and we very much need his services! He and Diggs would give us 2 excellent CBs.

Id say Urban. He is at least a role player. Basham doesn't give them any reason to take Gregory or Lawrence off the field. Probably not much better than Armstrong

Agreed. Urban is a player that will be able to fill a role. Especially with his skills against the run. Basham is another good signing who would make a nice rotational piece for Gregory and Lawrence. This helps shore up DE (though I may want one later in the draft anyway). Now we need a LB or a CB. For CB, I'm hoping for Kyle Fuller.

No doubt, the Olawale contract was a major head scratcher, they paid him, but wasted his skills, and a roster spot.

How much of them have you actually watched? When I see people write JAG it usually means about nothing had been watched.
