Cowboys Sign Former Seahawk LB Korey Toomer

Never get too worked up about these roster spots. These guys are likely long gone by week 5, when injuries pile and we're searching the market for misc role players

Yes. These are short term rentals.

I would think he would go on the roster. Probably Cam Lawrence get the boot.

It's not even close, except their 10 yd splits. However, how healthy is this guy right now?

How close is Seattle defense to the Cowboys? How long until he knows the system?

The scheme is very close. Like Seattle, Rod Marinelli plays zone with the safeties and LB's and man outside with the CB's. But talent-wise, Dallas and Seattle are a few thousand miles apart......

He started TC on the PUP, but was activated at some point after clearing a physical. Probably not in great game shape.

He's the Seahawks' version of Matt Johnson.

Good Lord, I know he missed most of camp with a hammy but I'm hoping he's not quite THAT bad off. Not so long ago, Pete Carroll was bragging about how good of a player he was, then whammo, he cut him. I'm hoping that hammy problem is behind him but then, hammies are pretty unpredictable. Let's hope he's not our newest version of Matty Johnson. Please, say it ain't so.

He played half the game and played well, see my post above

I just found it, he played vs CHI and OAK.

Finished both games with 3 tackles, so 6 for the two games.

Sounds like he's well on the road to recovery. In any event Dallas should give him time to familiarize himself with the system before turning him loose onto the field. If he has any soreness to get over from that hammy, it should have some time to heal.
I'll be looking forward to seeing him get his feet wet with the C'boys whenever he's ready. His talent is sorely needed.

Some of the SeaHawk fans over at the 12th man forum essentially said he was injury plagued.

Some others were displeased with his release because he showed promise during the off season in mini-camp and had Pete's attention and praise at the time.

We shall see!

This guy has some talent. I watched the last preseason game where he got 41 snaps and played almost all ST. He's fast, surprisingly strong. Caused a fumble, was in on some tackles, made a couple tackles. He's best covering TE and RB out of the backfield. He pretty much shut down anyone who ran a route. He looked like he knew what he was doing (few mental mistakes). Better against the pass than the run. Def a weakside LBer, could be the nickel guy sooner than later.

Interestingly, they rushed him a decent amount, even from a Weakside end position. He caused some pressure. Even rushed as a DT one time and got in on the play. I'm impressed

I agree with this assessment. I just watched the same game he didn't wow me but seemed super solid. Not mental errors, he's just where he is supposed to be. He's better at shedding tackles than Carter is but I did not get to see his athleticism much during the game. It looks like they had him playing him at SAM and not a lot was coming his way.

I think it was Gil Brandt, or Pat Kirwin, that stated that a draft picks who's Bench Press + Vertical + Broad equals 70, or greater, is an elite athlete. Toomer's is almost 73. If he has the mental aspect to his game, we could have something here folks. Keeping fingers crossed.
