Cowboys Sign Former Seahawk LB Korey Toomer

I think it was Gil Brandt, or Pat Kirwin, that stated that a draft picks who's Bench Press + Vertical + Broad equals 70, or greater, is an elite athlete. Toomer's is almost 73. If he has the mental aspect to his game, we could have something here folks. Keeping fingers crossed.

A 42" vert is not common. It doesn't always translate to the field, but it's a good sign of athleticism to go along with a good forty time.

Says a lot about our lack of defensive talent that this thread is blowing up. Hopefully we sign a few more guys like this. Gimme a few DE.

While watching him play at AWC (Jr College) we (myself and some other regulars at home games) started calling him "Super Freak" He was all over the field and as fast as the WR's and DB's. Very impressive size/speed athlete.

Never get too worked up about these roster spots. These guys are likely long gone by week 5, when injuries pile and we're searching the market for misc role players

It could be sooner if they need to make a place for Scandrick/Hamilton following their suspension.

Thanks. Hope he helps our porous defense. Coming from Seattle he should be pretty good considering how late they cut him.

I dont understand why people call this 2014 def porous. I think the defense starters gave up 3 points this preseason? If youre going to just the starting defense by the final score of a preseason game then you clearly arent watching the games. They arent dominant not even close bu they arent bad. This defense has alot of young guys that are hungry. And that was 3 points with a starting group that didnt have its starting DL.

You had a starting DL of Crawford | Coleman | Hayden | Mincey for the majority of the PS. You cant possibly tell me that you think that DL matches up to a DL of

Selvie | Melton | McClain | Mincey.

Not to mention they started Scandrick and Mitchell for all 4 preseason games. Scandrick was very good but teams picked on Mitchell and BW. And both of them got cut. Have to think Carr and MO along with Scandrick, Moore, Patmon, Thomas are a better overall core then having Carr and MO out.

Think come sept 7th we will see Carter SAM, Ro MIKE, and Durant WILL

Im actually upbeat about this defense just because of the youth. Alot of new faces, and i like it. I loved Ware before he was on most Cowboy fans radars and they were standing in line to sniff Merrimans game worn jock. But Ware was a shell of his prime. Hatcher was playing for the money. IM glad both are gone. Now its a young group looking to make their own stake in this team.

I know this season is going to have its fair share of struggles and ugly games. But atleast they are going to go into this season with young guys who are developing instead of old vets who should be leading but never do.

the only way this guy stays on this team if he can play special teams. also if he stays on this team maybe next year he can challenge for a starting spot.

Good post. But I didn't say 2014 defense. I was talking about last year, which was really bad.

I do hope you are right though. :D

I think Toomer is going to see a lot of playing time early. I sounds like Wilbur is going in at RDE on passing down. I think this kid will play a lot. Just a hunch.

At this stage of the game, this is probably the best we could hope for. Glad we were able to find a decent prospect. Now let's hope he can stay healthy....
