I thought it was clear to all of us by now, yet we keep getting threads saying the same thing.

They plan to give who they have in-house every opportunity to seize the job.
But after awhile, if it looks like an upgrade is needed at either starter or for better depth, they will not hesitate to hit the market.

Currently, I suspect it's depth that concerns them at least a little bit....which at RB, is nothing to panic about in preseason.

thie part below seems pretty "dire" to me......i never said he said that ...i said that...

Joseph Randle fumbled in team drills in front of reporters in Wednesday's practice. Darren McFadden (hamstring) remains on the shelf, and Lance Dunbar recently needed X-rays on his ankle

That's your opinion on the matter. I don't see Stephen's acknowledgement that he feels the same way.

With McFadden missing time right now and Dunbar looks no better as a player and the new guys brought it I see nothing impressive about them, Randle is the only one who looks decent. Jones can say what he wants but I think there is a very good chance some vet will be brought in to help this running game.

I totally agree.

It almost feels like an ego thing to me at this point. As if he can't admit he made a mistake in signing McFadden and followed that up by not drafting a running back and actually needs to do something to correct that mistake.

Just to further clarify...this is what Stephen said...sounds overwhelmingly confident of the current or former regime prior to the draft...

"We would have liked to have added a young running back to that group," said Jones. "The situation didn't present itself in the draft, so we didn't get that done. We probably missed out there. ... There's backs out there that I think still have some gas left in their tank, and if we need to go get one, we'll go get one."

Randle fumbling in a practice is hardly dire. By all accounts he has looked very very good. He has a long way to go to reach Murray fumble levels.

Depth is another issue. If Dunbar and/or McFadden continue to have health problems we will definitely be picking up RB help.

No need to panic it is still early in preseason. Plenty of time to make necessary adjustments.

Exactly...depth is where I feel the dire...Randle fumbling is part of the quote I copied.

I'm giving McFadden Saturday and nothing past that. If he doesn't get out on the field and stay out on the field for every practice afterward, I would pull the plug and get someone who can. Not only would it get me someone more reliable, it would send a message to the rest of the team that we're not putting up with fragile players who can't help us win. Get on board or get out!

I don't know if it was a mistake with McFadden, they seem to be banking on him coming back and we will see how he is. I do think it is a risk as it stands now, but I think we will be seeing a seasoned player added to the mix. Davis was right last night on the NFL Network that it is not just the OL it is a RB who knows how to set up blocks and make the right reads. Guys who are running up the back of OL, or cutting back too soon instead of allowing the blockers to do their job is going to cost this team

Are there any of the 3rd round on down RB draft pics tearing it up in their camps?

Tevin Coleman was there for what 3 rounds? Yeah nobody fell...
I don't consider the situTion dire, but yeah, I was totally shocked we didn't draft a back.

Thought for sure we'd trade either down in the 3rd or up in the 4th to get Javorius Allen or Mike Davis. They did end up falling all the way till one pick before us in the 4th. We maybe got greedy there. A small trade up ahead of those teams looking at RBs would have done it.
No telling if they will actually be good though.

Gregory falling to us in the second shook things up early...Coleman went soon after that

I feel at this point Seastrunk is a better option.

I was skeptical when they signed him, and disappointed when he once again came up lame during OTA's. And now that he's injured before camp even got underway? I'm done.

I do think it is a risk as it stands now, but I think we will be seeing a seasoned player added to the mix. I disregard anything Davis says. He was the same guy who criticized Murray last year when he was a Cowboy. Said he runs to darkness and left a lot of yards on the field. The minute he leaves Dallas, he's irreplaceable.

His agenda in this regard is clear.
