Cowboys trade 2014 6th rd pick for Chiefs 2014 7th rd pick and DE Edgar Jones

Good trade. They get a player that you would probably get in the 6th or 7th round and a 7th rounder

I was waiting for Wilber to be cut yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if he is before the season starts.

I was just thinking out loud.

I don't thnk Wilbur will be cut, at least not yet anyway.

Jones has to prove he can play here and that will be hard to do via two practices this week before a real game.

Get your facts straight before responding to my post. I was we'll aware that he was still on their roster. I said that he could have been picked up when he was cut which seemed to be the direction KAc was heading.

Pure speculation what MIGHT have happened. Again you are devoid of fact. Carry on w your silly opinion but its laughable what you think you know

Confident Crawford is a fit at DE, that was a bad loss to injury. Both for his development and the defense as a whole.

I think the mistake that some fans make when it comes to the "do not trade for someone about to be cut" perception is they assume we would be the only team interested in the player. There are several teams that desperately cling to every draft pick they have and some whose draft pick arsenal is lacking due to previous trades. There are also several teams that are more than willing (and capable with free salary cap space) to overpay for 53-cut-down free agents. On top of that, a free agent player has the ability to play interested teams against each other to drive up his price and ultimately may choose another team over the Cowboys for a variety of reasons such as location, childhood favorite team, etc. where had they been traded they would have been perfectly happy joining the Cowboys.

At this point, our special teams has looked bad (granted, more so with a lot of no-longer-on-the-team-players) during pre-season. If we can add 1-2 stellar ST free agents on the cheap, I am okay with that given how important field position is to winning in the NFL.

I've seen Wilber out and about several times in Dallas. He barely looks like a NFL linebacker let alone a 4-3 defensive end. I'm not shocked he was consistently blown up by the Texans backup tackles on run plays. I don't think he has the physical abilities to succeed in this scheme. JMHO.

Special teams is, in fact, important, so I'm okay with the trade. Just wonder why we're never on TE opposite end, getting a draft pick (even a 7th) for someone we plan on cutting!

These type of players are a dime a dozen. If not him, there will be 25 more of them available in the next few days. Dallas didn't give up much for him, but if they didn't get him when he was cut, they could have picked up a player very much like him. It shouldn't be hard to find guys with more than 1.5 sacks over a five year period.

The difference is that the Cowboys aren't cutting guys who have played a decent amount in the NFL like Cook last year and Jones this year.

Broaddus just said he is here to help on defense also. Said he will play on the strong side.

Raises the question. If jones plays as Spencer's backup, then selvie can backup ware on the weak side, the side he looked better on.

So what to do with Wilber. He can't play the strong side and selvie appears a better player to give ware some snaps because he can hold up in the running game.

So if true I wonder where Wilber fits.

This makes some sense. Perhaps they're still trying to move Wilber and wanted room on the roster for him through countdowns.

That is a very valid question! I have often wondered that outside of a returner, it seems special teams abilities are rarely part of the consideration for our late round picks.

STs has been the weak link the entire off season, and you guys are complaining about the team making a move to improve it? Did I accidentally stumble back onto the true blue forum?

Hey we get an extra 7th and we get some help on STs eh sounds ok to me

He must have had some perceived value around the league. That we felt we had to trade for him meant we thought there were some teams who would select him before us if he was waived.
