Cowboys trade 2014 6th rd pick for Chiefs 2014 7th rd pick and DE Edgar Jones

Nothing from Broaddus carries much weight anymore. He is basically Mickey Spagnola with a scouting background these days.

Couldn't be more wrong. I listen/watch to Talking Cowboys every day and he constantly criticizes Dallas for taking Frederick in the first rd. He also rips them for Ratliff's contract extension and the fact they assumed he was gonna be healthy.

I don't always agree with him but he's one of the must knowledgeable and respectable cowboy writer out there. Just cuz he doesn't throw ppl under the bus and act like a smug POS like the ppl at his former employer doesn't mean he's a company man.

Uhhh, have you seen our ST play this preseason?? It was worth it. ST never seem seems to matter to most fans until its too late..

I agree. This unit needs a lot of help. I don't understand the 12 page thread over a player that is only costing us a few draft spots in next years draft.

Hey, this new guy spent 4 years winning a spot with a team with real professional NFL management. Must be real good, right?

ignore rowdy.

from his wiki-

Baltimore Ravens
Jones was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He filled a number of different roles as a Raven, including outside linebacker, defensive end, and tight end. His biggest contributions, however, came on special teams, where he established himself as one of their top special teams tacklers and blockers.

Kansas City Chiefs
Jones signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on July 29, 2012. He became one of the team's most valuable special teams players, leading the Chiefs with seven tackles and two fumbles recoveries on special teams, including one returned for his first NFL touchdown at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 14, 2012.

Now I think I see what his main role will be in shoring up our suspect special teams.

we made a move and it's micro-analyzed.

those that hate jones, hate the move and will get their shots in. don't even care if jones made the move. i tend to let things play out before i determine if i like it or not.

the IGS sucks.

I swear, even if we won the dang Super Bowl, people on this board would still complain about the plays we messed up on in the game, the players who messed up, and the Front Office for putting those players into that position.

Couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, multiple playoff victories would be hard to complain about at this point.

not totally fair. a ton of lost hopes and dreams builds up a ton of walls to have to get through again. i hate those who dwell on things they can't change, but i understand why they do.

and put them on ignore if they can't stop it.

there in, we both fixed our own issues. :)

Yup. It would be the same if we went back-to-back again.

You would think, but I'll stick to what I said after reading countless posts on countless threads on a front office action that is condemned to the depths of hell before anything materializes from it. There's always gonna be someone on here throwing ignorance on the wall in hope that it sticks.

that won't change. not by calling them on it, or by telling them it's not the cause.

there's always someone doing something you don't like.

you can't fix what you consider stupid, so move on and talk to those you actually help you see things in a better light.

or get pulled down by the bitter asspumps of the world.

WTH....If a 6th round pick this year is worth a 7th round pick next year then we just fleeced KC because we get a full year of service from our pick and an excellent special teams player that we sorely needed...I can't believe all the whining about this.

wise words

Any way you look at it, it doesn't do much good to drive 99 yards down the field and score a touchdown if you give the points right back on the ensuing kickoff. At least the Cowboys management recognizes the problem and is trying to do something about it.

I am well aware of how terrible the special teams units have been.

I am of the mind that this hole could have been filled with a waiver claim. He's not going to contribute on the defense as a backup (and to the inevitable cries of how do you know? He hasn't contributed on defense in over three seasons - he's strictly a ST player).

Yes, I have no problem upgrading special teams. I just don't like making a trade for a completely one dimensional player, especially with the lack of depth on the lines.

I feel neither glad nor mad we made this deal. For anyone who witnessed our ST performances in preseason, you're aware it was dismal. A deal was made for someone who, by all indications, is capable of serving in a possible dual capacity that might serve us well.

If Edgar Jones serves his intended purpose, we're good. If not, it's not as though we sold the farm in the process. We'll be getting some moderate help for a moderate price.

Sounds like a pretty fair exchange to me. If ex-scout Bryan Broaddus says it's very likely a good deal, I tend to believe he knows what he's talking about, since player evaluation is what he did for a living.

What an embarrassing overreaction this non-issue turned out to be for some of you. My goodness.
Hope the new guy is the roster upgrade they expect him to be.

We have two guys on the team that are special teams "aces" (both of which I've never seen make one play), both of which are liabilities if they have to play their respective defensive positions. Not good.
