Phillips does a bit more than Hankins. Plus Hankins received a bit more than veteran minimum which likely is why they didn’t want to bring him back.

Big Hank is your classic 1T run stuffer who doesn’t move. Phillips gets up field a bit more and is more disruptive against the pass.

Phillips give Zimmer a similar guy to a Linval
Joseph or a Demato Peko type player who is 6’3-6’4 and 325+

But if he does, a cheap backup NT is always a win

I'd be surprised if he doesn't make this team. He's average, that makes him the top 1-tech already.

So, the Giants basically just gave him away probably because they knew they were going to release him.
