I believe it was David (Duke) Johnson the BOYS liked in the 2015 draft. Cardinals took him in the 3rd round ( pick 86 ) and the Boys in the 3rd round was # 91

Also , I think they liked Thomas Rawls - should have burned a 7th round pick on him.

Believe they really liked David Johnson, I think they knew Gurley and Gordon were going to be gone in the 1st..........David Johnson of Northern Iowa, another FCS level school (Wentz), That just cannot compete against FBS, let alone make the jump to the NFL..........proven wrong too many times

What is so special about Henry? I don't see it.

He resembles a bigger version of Herschel Walker. Walker averaged about 4.2 YPC for his career. If you thought you could get 4.2 YPC for 5-10 years, how high would you draft somebody? I don't have an answer for that.

A lot to much.

He will prove interesting following, to just get a handle on cost of strong youth compared to proven veterans in today's Cap environment. I think he receives that ball park contract...with Dallas? Nope

You basing your opinion on the concept of older and reasons for cutting ties with him, in the buyer beware mode?

Would a $2 Million contract pass muster?

Until I have set standards, I shoot from the hip...first respecting what he already brought to the table as a player. I try to reason around a respect first, until a proven standard is stated...

My dream draft would be to take an impact player for the defense in the first round and Derrick Henry in the second.

1. Mack, or Bosa, Ramsey (other impact Defensive Player). It would be ideal to be able to trade down and still have the 7-10 pick and still get one of these guys and get a few extra picks. 2nd-Connor Cook or Doctson/Braxton Miller 3rd. CJ Prosise (Love this Kid)... 4th - final Round...DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE

Jones said they had planned on drafting a running back last year and were surprised when he was drafted before they could pick.

So they either wanted Gurley or Gordon or either one of them. They had planned on that even when they had Randle and McFadden.

I think that is very interesting given where we are today.

McFadden had a decent year last year, but there is no way the Cowboys are relying on him to be the guy for the future. Him staying healthy last year can't be considered the norm, and honestly he shouldn't be expected to be as good as he was last year this year.

I think it is clear that they will go after Elliott or Henry in the draft after hearing Jones talk about the situation last year.

good lord....
you used an assumption to make an assumption.
it's too early for this.

Actually I didn't.

Jones said he was more comfortable knowing that he could improve the running back situation this year compared to the defense because of where we draft. I think that's pretty obvious what that means...

So you don't believe in best player available. Nice to know.

sweet, you like drafting kickers or punters then.

best player available means best impact on your team. you don't draft best pure athlete, you don't draft best guy at his particular position by margin... you take best player for your team.

zeke elliot is not the 4th best football player in this draft. for dallas he would be a rotational rb with 60% of the carries max next year on a team thta already runs it well and needs every other aspect of the game to improve.

60 percent max? Gurley had 229 carries last year.

I would say there is a good chance the split could be 65 35 or 70 30. McFadden is on his last legs.

We need to run the ball extremely well next year. That's how you make the biggest impact on defense.

Actually you did.
No where did Jones state he considered a RB round 1 last yr or that he would this year.
It is well known they thought last year they had a RB lined up in round 4 but he was gone.
Jones again would like a RB in this draft but he isn't looking at one with a premium pick and probably never will.

The Cowboys use positional bias in the draft. It shows on their board and how they draft. It has worked well for them the past 5 years.
If you pay attention and stop hearing what you want you'll get a pretty good idea of what they want to do.

If you listened to what he said it was clear that he felt he could get a running back in free agency or in the draft that would make an immediate impact. He based it on their position in the draft.

The Cowboys success in 2014 showed how valuable a dedication to the running game could be for a club in this pass happy era. The commitment made to the OL while having Romo and Dez makes RB a valuable position in Dallas. Thus elite talent at the position should be valued due to the difference it made in 2014.

Elliott would be an impact player in Dallas the minute he steps off the plane. That can't be denied...can it? Not sure they pull the trigger at #4 and I am on record saying that IF they evaluate a QB as a franchise QB and he is on the board at #4...take him. BUT...if they see the guys as overvalued due to their position and think they aren't franchise guys...walk away. Just look at the crop of QB's in the 2017 draft....one or more will likely be 1st rounders and based on what I've seen as of today....none are franchise QB's but they will be overdrafted and overvalued just because they are a QB.

Regarding the RB position, I can see a shift to teams taking RB's in Round 1 use them up for 5 years then repeating the cycle. It may start as early as 2017. There could be...I repeat "could be", 6 RB's taken round 1 or early 2nd next year (Parine from Oklahoma; Freeman from Oregon; Cook from Florida St.; Chubb from Georgia; McCaffrey from Stanford; and Fournette from LSU). The League devalued the position briefly but saw the Seahawks be successful with the right RB and the 2014 Cowboys do the same so it won't last. Just look at how Guards and Centers are now seen as 1st round guys. GM's, coaches and scouts change views on position from time to time.

What about life with Romo? **** the future. It took 20+ years to get a relevant team. You got a QB. You got a WR in his prime. You got young studs on the Oline. Go get the ******* RB. Even at 4.

It took 20+ years mainly because we didn't prepare for life without Aikman...all those parts will still be here with one glaring exception. Romo fell into our laps as an UDFA and the influence of Sean Payton. The team has never had to answer for replacing Aikman until an UDFA showed he was franchise QB? I don't want to bet on that happening again...
