Jerry is so arrogant, he couldn't comprehend a coach wouldn't bow down, kiss the ring, and beg to come back to serve in his kingdom at any price.
I think if all this is true, MAYBE now that explains him calling Deion , in order to validate himself yet again. Like, "I'll show you." 'I didn't need you." We have Deion. Pride can be good and it can work against ya. Jerrys pride is the latter. Its been killing the team for 30 years.

I mean this was obvious from the beginning. If you didn't want him back, why deny the Bears request to interview him?

Clearly Jerry wanted him back but on his terms and when McCarthy balked, Jerry was left holding the flaming bag of poo. Jerry's arrogance and stubbornness, again, blew up in his face.

Yep.....It amazes me Jerry didn't bother to check MM's pulse ( on returning ) until 1-2 days before the contract expired.

Jerry runs a clown show to be sure, but RJ is so often wrong that this feels about the best endorsement for Jerry you can possibly get.

What we are fairly certain we have been told is that Jerry never even discussed contract at all with Mike before Mike opted out less than 24 hours before the clock expired.
The most likely answer is the obvious one.
Mike wanted Kellen out so he could run his offense.
When that went belly up Jerry always planned to fall back to Kellen as the solution to get Dak going and protect his insane investment there.

Does it really matter. No one on this board wanted McCarthy back and most wanted him fired during this past season. I would love to know what Jerry was offering. I think anything below a four year deal would be an insult to McCarthy.

1. Ochoa is an odd fellow to me with some frequency.

2. Evaluating the field, they didn't see an obviously better option, so of course they didn't look to formulate a back-up plan.

3. Evaluating the field and the time constraints, the lack of said plan has objectively, tangibly, empirically not hurt them. They've lost out on Vrabel, but it's a hard sell that Vrabel was absolutely the best of the Plan Bs, and that, even after you account for the fact that the Pats were the odds-on favorite to land him regardless.

4. The very fact that all of us fans are so divided about what a Plan B should look like... ie, that there's no automatically-smart-move to be had... kinda makes Ochoa's headline impotent.

It's just too easy for these bloggers to beat up on the Joneses and expect clicks. Gets silly sometimes.
That doesn't apply here sorry. You always have a plan b. No matter how good plan a goes.

And their stupid thumb wrestling cost them plan a by the way.

And plan b does not have to align with what the fans want or has to be common knowledge. But it has to be your plan b.

Sorry, but these two are absolutele doofuses and have been for a long time.

Does logic ever enter your calculations, or is it just an emotional thing with you?

It applies. Because logic applies.

If you want to challenge something I said, then do that... dismissiveness isn't an argument, it's only dismissiveness.

They played around with MM. Thought he was hard up for a gig, stall talks, and low ball him. This right here is the problem with JJ and the FO. I recall Michael Jordan saying something similar with the Bulls. Same situation and said if they try to low ball on the first offer he is out. But they did right and gave him market offer. MM was tired of the circus show bs and they wasn't going to pay him enough to tolerate it.

It makes perfect sense that Jerry did not have a backup plan.
I would bet good money that Jerry expected Mike to agree to his STUPID contract conditions. As per a couple weeks ago being incentive contracts.
After you refuse to do a contract last year, with everyone on one year deals. Refuse to bolster the roster and Trade away valuable Draft pieces in each subsequent draft. (4th rounders = depth pieces they dont have). Then think you have McCathy over a barrel on new contract negotiations - oh, and if you were going to try to force him to have Witten on the coaching staff as an heir apparent....
McCathy was perfectly right to walk away from this lunatic !
Good for him !

Not surprised. Dum and Dumber have no idea what they are doing. They still think its an honour and privilege to coach this franchise that they have made the laughing stock of the NFL

This is BS! The back up plan is start interviewing other coaches, and we’ve done that. Just a click bait headline.

The Joneses deserve to be beat up on constantly.

Besides they appear to like it. All news is good news right Jerry.
