Eli might decide to try and back out of his contract after Sunday night. Crawford will be in his face all night and he'll be thinking,"I signed up for 4 more years of THIS?"

Yeah, ducking tomatoes and all but unless he plays better than he ever has, he's not worth that contract. This is a gamble on potential.

It's not a bad contract for a young player that knows the defense and he will get even better as the 5 years go by. There is something to be said about continuity.

Drummond's just some dude writing from his couch.
don't put weight into his words about what the FO does, or should do.
He is a BTB guy, and one that Fisher decided to pay for his crap site.

I give him his dues. I enjoyed reading his breakdowns when he was a SB Nation blogger. Very insightfull. But he is totally out of his depth writing for Fish

The elite DTs have got a lot more in free agency, Suh got 19 million on average. Most recently Dareus got 15. The cap is going up.

It's not cheap. Probably a million or two more per year than I think he has earned. It also is buying on potential and locking him in cheap if he has the type of year we expect.

It's a prudent decision from out front office and for Tyrone.... A guy who has already had a major injury in his career.

Our front office continues to make strong calculated gambles.

You lock up a young guy before UFA and it is usually a bargain. I remember how people hated this pick!

Yes, I got it. Part of me really like the player and what he adds to this defense, but part of me is saying he is not worth that type of financial commitment at this time. Of course, there is a 20/20 type of element to all of this (as with any contract). You pay a player based on future high performance potential and contribution to the team, but I just don't think we have enough sample size to predict future success to warrant these numbers. That's why I am just in the middle on this one.

At any rate, I am very happy for him and his family. I know it was not easy coming back from that achilles tear and, from all accounts, he was an absolute stud in traing camp.
