Hardy will be playing for another team next year.

Maybe but you cannot pretend that he is going to have the same market as someone without his stigma. Certain owners will not touch him. I get that it only requires 1 but seeing how he didn't contest his case further he does seem to have other priorities than money.

And he's making a lot less than the elite. Cullen Jenkins. Get out of here with that crap.

Crawford has 3 sacks, let's let him earn his accolades shall we. Unlike Murray, Crawford has yet to produce anything deserving that contract, YET. I hope he does tho, because I am a Cowboys fan as well as a Ty Crawford fan.

I'm as big of a homer as the next guy so you know what you can do with your crap.

Agreed.

He's not elite (yet), but he's way above average. He's good to very good at this point.

He was the 15th ranked DT/NT per PFF (out of 80 guys).

And it's not like he had a ton of snaps at DT last year before they slid him into that spot.

The kid will be in the top-10 this season.

Yet we couldn't afford Murray lol. It's a little bit high but it is what it is.

We couldn't afford Murray because this wouldn't be possible. Or at least this or the next upcoming signings wouldn't be possible or having Hardy...

Not to mention, it is smart not to sign 27 yo Rbs coming off 500 touch seasons to huge money at a position of minimal importance.

This is how you conduct business in today's NFL for an ascending player at position that is paid a premium. If you wait until he has a great year this year, and make no mistake about it unless he is injured he will, then the price goes through the roof. This way you sign a future star without compromising your ability to lockdown your best offensive lineman in the future. This contract will look like peanuts in two years.

You cannot be reactionary when handing out contracts to core players or you will always be paying top dollar and that will effect your ability to keep other core players down the road.

If as I expect Crawford improves on his #15 ranking (per PFF) at DT/NT this season and say he played for another team and Dallas had to sign him as a FA... they would have to pay better than $10 mil per year to get him. Probably in the vicinity of $12 mil.

Dallas probably saved $10 mil by signing him now.

personally i think its too much for a good player we HOPE becomes great. Its a big gamble imo and he needs to step up it large this year. Having those 3 DE's along side him(Hardy,Gregory and DLaw) should give him 1 on 1 matchups that he simply has to win.

Except TCraw isn't elite, yet. At this point he would be considered about average. He's definitely not Sapp or Randle caliber. Right now he's not even Cullen Jenkins. Again, yet.

His numbers don't show it, but he played at a high level last year. He was thisclose to several sacks all year. I'm glad they locked him up while he is relatively cheap to retain. Great deal IMO.

A little higher than I what I would have considered (I was thinking 5/40, with 18 guaranteed).

He's getting about 1/2 of what Dareus just received from the Bills.

He's also not even remotely as good a player as Dareus, but few people are.

I'm pretty happy with the contract, he would have gotten somewhere around the same on the open market. At least this way, we don't give him a chance to go elsewhere.

I hate to say this, but that made me think of Almost Anthony.

So many fans really expected a lot from a JAG. Maybe slightly better.

Im ok with the contract, we re paying high for another guy who most likely wont meet fans expectations, but hes not oft injured, still young and doesnt completely suck. It ll save us from searching for talent each year until a sure fire talent comes around and makes us all forget this talent. A fair contract for a fair player. Dont get wrong, no offensive coach is sweating this deal.

I don't disagree with that.

But is he worth 1/2 a Dareus?

Yeah, I'd say so... And that's just based on his '14 season. Crawford will be even better this season.

I bet more than one OC is sweating T Crawford during film sessions.
I almost guarantee it.
