Crayton on 103.3 sounding off on previous coaches

Half the roster can't be wrong.

I can see where people would rather the players take the 'high road', shut up, and produce, (I would too) but comments criticizing the coaching can't just be attributed to a bunch of underachievers complaining.

At some point, there has to be a measure of truth to their claims.

It just makes me all the more eager for the season to start.

Exactly, not to mention that during the season us FANS were pretty much saying the same thing.

Oh, come on. Don't make me read that much in the afternoon. Cliff's notes anyone?

You tell someone to shut up then give a lecture on what is and what isn't classy? Son, do you see the irony here?

Oh give me a break, get off your high horse.
Irony has nothing to do with it.
I stand by my original comments 100%.

Seems to me you can talk about someone needing to shut up and can talk about class, but cant take it when it comes back to you.

Sorry but I would much rather hear from Crayton and what he feels than your duty to let us know they should keep their mouth's shut.

I find this all too amusing.

We had four years of a few constants:

If we thought we were even with the other team or that they were a little better, we played not to lose. Washington, Seattle, Jax, etc...Every Parcells versus Gibbs match up was to see who could be the most conservative.

If we knew we weren't as good and we really needed to lay it on the line we did. IND and the Philly game where we threw it almost every down.

If we knew we were better, we opened things up, blitzed on D and ran up the score...TB, AZ, etc.

SP,

It wasn't my intention to be inflammatory. I do think think that this is the most negative a player has been on BP yet. Big deals and long threads were made of Julius' robot comments and Spears two-gapping comments, and IMO this was worse than those. So I thought people would want to know about it.

I do disagree about the interview being some set-up of Patrick Crayton. Jen Engel LOVES her some Parcells; she's been his biggest defender in town for, well, forever. So I don't think she plans her show around tricking guests into trashing Bill.

You're definitely right that this isn't that big a deal. But really, none of this is a big deal, is it? We're deep into the offseason, and everyone's starved for news and a little stir crazy. Sam Hurd spraining a knee will be more important news than this in about 10 days or so, but right now stuff like this is all we've got.

At least this and Julius discussions are what pass for big discussion topics, and not coaching health problems or players getting suspended for DUIs. So maybe this level of navel examination isn't such bad news after all. ;)

I was saying that players need to shut up and play.

You were directly telling me to shut up. There is a big difference there.

Make your argument without personal attacks.

in the off-season????

pu-lease.

:laugh1:

It seems kind of funny too me that some people can tell players what should be said or what should not be said at all, when they have no earthly idea what the environment was like for all those Parcells years. Very amusing...

Parcells did what he does...he rescued a team in dire straits and did it with tough love...however, maybe that tough love for all those years finally wore down the guys...well some of them.

So, after not having to go through that anymore, why can't they vent a little if that is the way they feel? They know, and we dont, period!

You go somewhere and get brow beat for four years and see if you don't exhale now that it's over...

I hope the ones that are moaning about what a player says don't ever come here moaning about anything...yeah, right!

I know when I left my last job...under my breath or to my wife, I called my boss everything I could think of...

Personal Attack?
Oh my, you are a little to sensitive there. Trust me if it was a personal attack you would have known it, and I did not tell you directly to shut up, I said maybe you should.

And how the heck can you tell other people they need to shut up, but can not take it when somone suggests you maybe should. That tells me all I need to know about you right there. You can attempt to dish it, but definetly can not take it.

Ok let me break this down real simple.

You choose -
players shut up, you tell us they should

I choose -
Players talk, you tell us nothing

No reason to get your feelings hurt.

Do players react to that tough love act anymore with the amount of :money:being thrown around now days it seems like it has changed. Funny how Tony Dungy has had success in two places; come on this guy rebuilt the Bucs from the laughing stock of the NFL (30 years) to a Super Bowl contender for years. Then he goes to Indy and finally gets them over the hump not by being a tyrant but by being a steady guy. His teams are usually disciplined yet he was not a tyrant. His teams are prepared and ready to play he kept his composure.

Lovie Smith has followed a similar model and has the Bears in the playoffs than the Super Bowl.

I just think the old school ways of being a tyrant do not work like they use to. I think it all comes down to :money: now compared to when Parcells use to have to deal with. Coughlin has struggled to maintain his teams in Jacksonville and now New York at times because he is like Parcells and Haley a tyrant; bully and players are starting to tune those type of guys out.

I mean the money some of these guys get if they cut them they can just retire for the rest of their life if they invest it properly. It changes how much crap you will put up with from guys that just make your life miserable.

Just my view I could be totally off the mark; like I said just a hunch by me.

I don't know Belicheck has 3 rings and is a pretty no non-sense type of guy. I think if you can get your team to buy into what your trying to do then you have a good chance at success.

he is no nonsense but the players say he likes to joke around with them at times and stuff. My understanding that I gather from the way players talk is he is not a tyrant but detailed oriented and is suppose to be pretty funny when the cameras are not around.

I think his media face is different than what is in the locker room.

like I said I could be way off base here it is just a growing trend I see in successful head coaches

abersonc: You shut up!

Champsheart: No! You shut up!

abersonc: No! You shut up!

Champsheart: I don't shut up, I :puke: . You come along and lick it up!

abersonc: That's disgusting! Shut up!

Champsheart: No! You shut up!

(Ladies and gentlemen, you've witnessed a condensed version of a highly charged, well articulated conversation.)

Hey the way I see it, none of us should be surprised about players sounding off about Parcells.

It was exactly what it looked like from the outside. He was tired...he wasn't enjoying himself...he was constantly negative.

I said it a zillion times...THIS was NOT the coach I saw in NY all those years...and in fact, even his own players said it.

it's no surprise that players are now sounding off about him.

I would. Playing not to lose darn near every week has to really get old.

Well, the whole philosophy was "Don't make a mistake"...ya just can't play loose with that mindset.

The thing that stood out the most was when Crayton said "It seemed like we played not to lose instead of playing to win. And it came back to bite us in the butt in the end, and cost us a couple of games."
How many of us have said the same thing since last season ended?
His comments about Haley were very suprising and very candid. I was shocked to hear him talk about Haley like he did. Makes you wonder if Haley's problems with TO were more about Haley than TO. I can't imagine TO being very receptive to a coach who is cussing him out all the time.

Well, I have learned to be very clear in my communications.

I find it interesting that what we saw is what was going on.

Did I mention I have learned to be very clear in my communications?

:)
