Exactly. Right my expectations of him is AJ McCarron
I'm hoping he is the next star QB but it's going to come down to is he willing to put in the work and does he have the mental part that is so crucial for a QB. Time will tell

My opinion of Dak, is he was drafted to become our backup, not to be a starter. To be Romo's # 1 backup for the next 3-4 years according to Jerry.(Romo's time line). He has the arm, the size and the mobility to survive and maybe thrive. Does he have the brain to digest it all and act upon it, in the split second it takes ? And that is why he needs to sit and learn - just as Romo got 4 years to learn behind our QB's at the time. in my opinion, if he is thrown in as the backup this year, it will hurt his development. Think of David Carr - who was a # 1 pick, not a bottom of the 4th round !
I do not think our eventual replacement for Romo is on the squad yet (and wont be this year) But Dak can be a successful backup, and who knows at this stage, maybe more ..... That would also buy this franchise more time to find an eventual starter with Dak, by then being a vet.

You don't draft for backups. If so, what was Kellen Moore here for?

I don't understand this. He was a RB in college and is in the NFL.

Now look at QBs in the last 5 years outside round 1 and you'll get the picture.

Point taken. So what do you do? Do you panic and just draft the first quarterback you see just because he's a top 10 pick?

No, I didn't like the QB crop this year, so I'm glad we didn't drop a bunch of picks to move up. However, I think it's important we draft a top prospect in the next few drafts.

If he is he is going to be the starter and if he is going to be an elite quarterback, he'll be fighting for the starting job by the end of the year, middle of next year at the latest.

Nothing about Dak Prescott makes me believe he can't be a future starter.

Kellen Moore was to be the bridge to allow, Dak at least a year to aclimatise to NFL. To me, the FO, once they did nothing in off-season. Decided to roll the dice that Romo wouldnt get hurt this year. And a west coast QB could be the backup for one year.
Opps.

Since we rarely draft a QB it really makes no difference.
It does when members constantly harp on the fact the Cowboys haven't developed a QB. Kind of like going fishing with out any bait then complaining they haven't ever caught any fish. Well no kidding!

Even though it's just a preseason game he is showing potential that he could be a starting QB down the road. If he keeps playing like he has so far this game I would say he could very well be.
