Cutting Dez is a Huge Mistake

There is zero reason to believe that the Dak to Dez connection was going to improve. Dez's salary and production were not balanced in favor of the deal.

Dez going off to another place and having success does not make this a bad deal either. Dak and Dez's skillsets were not going to magically mesh.

The huge mistake would be trying to run the same vertical offense we have been. That still remains to be seen.

This is a move that could potential backfire big-time. Dez was the only real threat we had at WR who had to be accounted for. The two receivers we signed certainly aren’t going to scare anyone, look at their career numbers.

This is a gigantic mistake...... should have learned from DWare....... could have saved almost as much with a simple restructure

He could have been traded at worst....he will sign elsewhere quickly and he will play for 5-6 more years like ABoldin
ABoldin was a hard worker.

Not only that, it also provides an “excuse” for Garrett to keep his job one more year if the offense falters. Like I’ve been telling everyone who wanted him released, be careful what you wish for…

Do you really believe there is another team in the league that would be willing to take on Dez's contract?

Taking on a contract with no guaranteed money and not at the top end for WR contracts? I can't see why it wasn't tradeable.

Maybe the same reason Dallas didn't want to keep paying him what he was getting.

what did we learn from Ware? that he is not a 4-3 DE? that the two years he played 4-3 DE he was injured. that he had enough in the tank as a 3-4 DE to go to a already loaded defense and win a championship with them?

I rather let go of a player a year too early than a year too late. I think the team did a good job of finding a Dez like replacement. did he deserve 13 million? no. plus he was declining. he was never a good route runner so as he slowed down, his productivity dropped. I think this was a right move. he will go to a team that's ready for a superbowl run, have a good year and drop off after that. he will not get 13 mill for one year.

who would trade for a 800 yard injured the past two year 13 mill WR?

The Cowboys are a worse team today than they were yesterday. The move is going to put a lot of pressure on Dak. If he can’t make it work with the receivers we have lined up in 2018 it’s going to fall squarely on him. A lot of heads could roll after the 2018 season if we have another down year and one of those heads will be Garrett’s.

I’d take the Bills but it’s interesting to think about

there were teams lining up to give him huge dollars and we gave him away for nothing

that is same thing with OScan and now Dez

Yup, and we wonder why our defense is crap. We're going to reach for a WR now when we NEED LB or safety.

teams willing to give up dollars and their willingness to give up draft picks are not the same.

are you willing to trade for Earl Thomas? apparently not. nobody is making a trade. but what if he was released?

you don't think dallas called a few teams to see if they could trade Dez? again, a player with 800 yards/year the past two years. injured the past two years. 30 years and a 13 million cap hit. I guess we could fetch an 8th round pick....

and if there is such a WR available? what would you be willing to trade for him?

If Hurns puts up Dez numbers from last year does that means this thread is wrong?

Just trying to get a barometer so we can bring this back up after the season.

Hurns production over the past several years is equal to Dez at a fraction of the cost. Wonder if every fan base vastly overrates its players like cowboys fans do

Not seeing the possibility of a huge mistake with this one. Dez has been nowhere for three years.

I don't see the logic. Hurns is a compliment. Not a #1. Any of our other WR are compliments. None of the are #1. I thought we needed another year to make this kind of decision. I'm bummed

Good move. Wonder if they will draft a WR. Not sure I'd spend a high pick unless say Ridley fell R1 or a player in R2. We must draft a Mike but we don't have to draft a S or DL. I'd just like to draft Mike, S, and DL first three picks.

I see it as the smartest, best business decision the cowboys could have made. an aging, oft injured jag who no longer can produce and plays scared. who's to say many attempts weren't made to trade him. but there just weren't any takers. all the other teams interested in him had to do was review his game film the last 3 years. why waste 7th round pick? whether this move shows Stephen's growing influence of jerry finally coming to his senses, it is a move that bodes well for the cowboys.
