Cutting Dez is a Huge Mistake

Jerry pays HIM for HIS production. Are you saying, he should not have paid Dez like an average WR? I mean, that is what you're saying. Dez's production in the past wasn't Dez. It was Tony Romo and therefore Dez should have never been paid like an Elite player because it was Romo and not Dez.

Look at the other WRs that played well here with Romo, but left and sucked out. Dez should have never gotten that big contract. Jerry is just getting out from under that albatross contract.

Jerrry did the right thing here. This was 100% a business decision. Not a personal one.

Do you remember that drive where Tony came in at the end of the year in 2016 and went down the field without breaking a sweat throwing all over the place and deep? Other WR's are other WR's who never had the production DEZ had as all time TD reveiver! Dak can't hold Romo's jock strap so we will just see how Dez performs somewhere else before we know the whole story. My guess is that he is a great match for Russell Wilson. I would not be surprised if he ended up there.

While I see where you're coming from. The stats do not support that argument because the argument you're making is Romo MADE Dez.

No, Dez would have (and will have) great numbers with any competent QB. He was injured in 2015, admitted down year with a rookie QB in 2016, and 2017 bad QB play (all WR numbers were down).

You should have had your edge when you were getting paid. Not when you feel slighted.

This is a rule in life I learned a long time ago. If someone can't ever except blame, and always makes excuses. That is a person that has no business being in your life as you will end up being the subject of his/her failures.

This is the way the NFL works. If big pay players don’t perform up to what you get paid, they usually get cut. Lots of good NFL teams do this all the time.

GB- Jordy Nelson cut
Oak- Michael Crabtree cut

And those guys have performed better than Dez lately.
I know there’s disappointment but this pretty much is standard NFL cap management these days.
Better quarterbacks

Denim. Open your mind to the full picture. It's like the bitcoin argument. If you only stare at a smaller portion of the details. You will never have the full story. I hope you are out of that travesty that is cryptocurrencies. You will just lose money like Jerry did on Dez.

I already did, lol. Still holding on to my Ripple, though :{

My money is on Dez ending up in San Fran (they have tons of cap space and will give him 10m+ per season) and with Garappolo throwing him the ball i would expect him to have a monster year

Again, pay elite players elite money. Elite players are players that can produce by themselves. There are plenty of WRs in NFL history who had bad QBs, yet were still top notch WRs.

Gtfoh, you don’t know what was said on the sidelines, as Romo said it wasn’t what it seemed. You’re making assumptions. Guys being suspended is way more detrimental to what happens on the field.

He wasn’t asked to take a pay cut so this wasn’t just about money.
So you tell me what the underlying factor was that drove Jerry (a man that I guarantee you loved those #88 jersey sales) to cut him with no clear cut replacement on the team.

When Dak played without Dez in 2016 and that one half in 2017, he actually played better without Dez imo. Ball was spread around to WRs. Dak will be ok as long as the WRs run the routes they need to run and catch the ball.

Also, Zeke needs to remain on the field.

Not sure why we cut him today. Why tip you hand about the draft?

Now, teams know to get a top WR they will have to leapfrog Dallas at 19. We may have to overpay to get a WR we want. We should've waited until the draft was over.

For the Official Record

This is a gigantic mistake...... should have learned from DWare....... could have saved almost as much with a simple restructure

He could have been traded at worst....he will sign elsewhere quickly and he will play for 5-6 more years like ABoldin

And worst of all, what did these morons accomplish in waiting?

They waited three months to outright release him?

Waiting until the prime of free agency was over?

And until everyone in the world knew they were doing it so you nuked any trade value he might have had?

Bumpkins.

Yes, but QB play is the reason. I'll give you 2016, but 2015 and 2017 he didn't have a chance.

According to Bob Sturm's article at "The Athletic" he had a better chance than what some have implied:

Catchable % Catchable Targets Slot %
M Thomas 76 106 139 22
D Adams 73 79 108 19
D Thomas 68.4 93 136 18
A Brown 68 106 155 13
J Jones 67.1 96 143 23
B Cooks 66 72 109 17
D Bryant 64.2 81 126 22
R Anderson 62 69 111 28
D Hopkins 61.5 101 164 15
AJ Green 59.7 80 134 14
M Evans 56.7 75 132 21
The average “Catchable %” of the top 10 outside receivers in the NFL last year was 65.8%.

The same logic works in reverse though. Romo made Dez look good.
