Elliot couldnt run the ball. Morris had 5 yards a pop. We lost because Garrett and Jerrah wanted to showcase their 1st pick. Morris is better.

yeah it was so obvious they should have switched to morris from 2nd qtr on.
Morris is better at finding a crack or seam to run thru, or when to cut back or bounce it, elliot, was just running straight into piles.
Giants DL won the batttle with our OL. as far as our run game.

He was fine. He is a rookie. He was extremely efficient, and moved the chains. He was very good on 3rd downs as well. What did we have? 2 punts? What more can you ask? Two dropped TD passes and we win this game easily.

Dak stuck with the game plan, did what he was told to do.

Cowboys should have used Alfred Morris more. The Giants defense causing them to settle for FGs did them in, since it takes 3 FGs to put a team in "catch up mode".

Those stating they should do more read option with Dak are just going to get him injured. And not bumps and bruises injured, read option QBs suffer season ending knee and ankle injuries in the NFL.

Prescott's numbers weren't jaw-dropping -- he completed 25 of 45 passes for 227 yards -- but his game management was impressive. The Cowboys came in with a predictable strategy of controlling the clock and limiting mistakes -- and their rookie quarterback did everything that was asked of him. He understood the Giants would try to take away his most dangerous weapon, star wide receiver Dez Bryant. So Prescott basically took what the defense gave him and did it well enough to create ample scoring chances for his team.

He had excellent poise and took what the defense was giving him underneath. His deep passes were pretty bad, albeit almost all into double coverage. I just watched the "every pass by Wentz" and his deep passes were really impressive, I'm not sure If Dak has some of those same throws in his arsenal. We really need to develop fast developing intermediate routes that aren't comebacks or curls to generate some YAC & scores.

I remember Tony's first real action, also against the Giants.

It was in his 4th year wirh the team although most NFL stat keepers list it as his 3rd. He spent a full year inactive for all 16 games.

The week before, he threw his first two passes in garbage time. When Bledsoe was too imobile against the Giants in the first half Parcels switched to Romo.

Tony's first pass was intercepted and returned to the Cowboy 14. The Giants scored three plays later. In fact, three of his first career 27 attempts were intercepted, the last one returned 96 yards for a TD.

Think about that before criticizing Dak's performance as a starter in the very first game of his rookie season.

Again, Dak was the only rookie starting QB in Game #1 that didnt turn the ball over.

Let's be clear on that. Yeah, there were some missed catches by the receivers, but there were also some really bad throws that were missed interceptions by the defense. Let's just focus on the facts. Of the 28 quarterbacks, Dak ranked...

• 26th in passing efficiency
• 28th in yards per attempt
• 22nd in completion percentage
• 21st in adjusted net yards per attempt

In no way did he play well in an absolute sense. He was poor yesterday. You can argue that he was OK for a rookie, but he did not play well yesterday. At all.

A guy can play poorly on an absolute scale and great on a '4th round rookie making his first NFL start' scale. Games are won and lost on an absolute scale. Nobody gives you bonus points because you are starting rookies, there is no handicap system.

On an absolute scale Dak was Weedenesque. But when you consider how long it took Weeden to reach that level, and how ridiculously little time Dak has had to learn the NFL game, Dak's play was honestly about as good as anyone could possibly expect. I can't imagine any but the most deluded fans, drunk on pre-season kool aid, thinking Dak would come out and post a 100+ passer rating or something equally ridiculous in his first live action.


Dak Prescott was number 18 in ESPNs total quarterback rating. That's decidedly middle of the pack. Middle of the pack is a great place to be for a guy who had never before experienced NFL game speed, or seen the blitzes and disguised coverage that the Giants threw at him. Now he's got an idea of what real NFL games look like, and I expect him to perform better on an almost weekly basis. Based on his development so far I don't think that's outlandish.

IMO he played better than the 69 passer rating he had.

As opposed to Weeden Dak did attempt some down-field throws. He just didn't connect.

Just my opinion but I would look for Wentz to regress this week and Dak to earn a passer rating that's higher than what he had vs. the Giants.

If they were going to have him throw that much he should have been throwing a lot more screens to the RBs and bubble screens to Dez. Short, safe quick passes that get the ball into the hands of playmakers in space. Having him drop back and throw over 40 times was not smart. I was hoping he would throw 25 passes in the game, tops. I wouldn't even want Romo to throw 45 times in a game.

They should have taken about 10 of those passes and turned them into handoffs to Morris. And they probably should have taken another 5 or so and turned them into screens.

What Wentz did on Sunday was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen. Division 2. Barely a preseason. Suspect talent around him. None of it mattered. He's the real deal.

Then Dak had the same opportunity, coming from the SEC, full preseason, better talent around him and he looked like a rookie. And that's okay. But that's not Wentz.

We are settling at the most important position on the field.

This is true. They couldn't run the ball late and Giants dialed up pressure and dared him to throw. It happens. He will learn and hopefully the Cowboys will make adjustments for once in their life.
