Dak did not play well

He was a mixed bag. It was clear yesterday that he can succeed in the NFL, but also clear he has alot to work on. He really needs to set his feet more consistently
I agree, poor accuracy is the only thing I would pin on Dak in the 2nd half. He did show he's not accurate yet passed the short game. Anything med/long will be a QC type throw (for now). I really only count the Beasley drop as the TD lost; the Dez "drop" was a circus catch we're to used to seeing him pull down. There was no game plan for Dez unless you count him as a primary decoy for Beasley/Witten. Escobar should get half the snaps, Witten didn't even try on half of his run blocks so may as well stretch em wide and give Zeke more room to run.

Are you going to acknowledge that you didn't even read the first post?
not sure why anyone would bother reading back on much of anything you type really.

dak bad - even if you have to make up reasons why.

This is absolutely insane.

Any team that depends on a rookie quarterback to be a positive difference maker on opening day is a team that deserves the first overall pick in the next draft.

He had one job. Don't be the reason for the team losing and he did that job. The veterans and those elite squads are supposed to so everyting they can to compensate for having to start a rookie quarterback. You had best believe that I will ne calling those guya out all day long as I continue to vent.

However, the one guy you don't blame is the only starting rookie quarterback this week that didn't turn the ball over.

The Cowboys were forced to depens on a 4th quarter two minute drill led by a rookie quarterback? On opening day?

.....insane!!!

Let's be clear on that. Yeah, there were some missed catches by the receivers, but there were also some really bad throws that were missed interceptions by the defense. Let's just focus on the facts. Of the 28 quarterbacks, Dak ranked...
  • 26th in passing efficiency
  • 28th in yards per attempt
  • 22nd in completion percentage
  • 21st in adjusted net yards per attempt
In no way did he play well in an absolute sense. He was poor yesterday. You can argue that he was OK for a rookie, but he did not play well yesterday. At all.

All of you ready to bench Romo well yesterday is kind of what you get from a rookie QB.

Dak has a future here but Romo is the guy the gets us wins right now.

We win that game yesterday with Tony. No doubt in my mind.

I think his intermediate and deep accuracy will improve over the next few games. He needs to be cleaner with his footwork, and I think thats something he will be working on

This is exactly why stats are worthless.

I think his footwork was fine for the most part. You could tell he's working on that. But yeah, it needs more work.

he doesn't have Peyton happy feet, thank God.

His long balls are wobbly and way too much air under them,

He needs to quit trying to 'Aim' the throws, IMO.

This all is definitely coach-able.

Total QBR, he was ranked 16th..

Ahead of
Alex Smith
Andy Dalton
Fitz
Mariota
Newton
Cutler
Ryan
Siemian
Tyrod Taylor
Russell Wilson
Tannehill
RGIII

I want to look at that one deep incompletion to Bryant. I thought I remember him looking a little dancy when he made that throw.

Dak looked great ..... I cannot see how anyone who knows anything about football could think otherwise.

Interesting that the people who have been the most vocal supporters of the 'Dak will never give the job back' contingent are also the ones who think his 65 rating was everyone else's fault - he was after all, great. I'm sure those things are not at all related.

Not sure what it means for him longterm that the coaches didn't seem to trust his vertical passing, but I thought he did what was asked of him which was move the chains with short passes

You're clearly making a theory based off stats and not what happened in the game. There were 2 dropped touchdowns. If those were caught, all these stats would be higher. Your "he isn't good because of these stats" theory doesn't translate to what happened on the field and this theory is flawed. Dak did fine for a 4th round rookie playing his first game. In fact, I'm surprised anyone expected him to do more. Dak needs help from his teammates. He wasn't getting that this game unfortunately. We will win when anyone besides him can make some plays.

Think they just didn't want to put too much load on his shoulders. First NFL game, maybe trying to build his confidence with the quick underneath stuff.

Hopefully we don't limit the playbook and only go for the dink and dunk stuff.

Dak had as many bad passes that should have been interceptions. The Beasley missed touchdown was the only egregious drop I remember. The others were difficult catch attempts and often poorly thrown balls. Look, I'm not projecting Prescott to be a bad player. I think he has a bright future. But the notion that he played well yesterday just does not jibe with reality. He didn't.

Dak played great.

I think there are way too many people that want to crush any criticism of Dak in here. The OP did not suggest he was awful or couldn't play. He did not absolve the WRs of criticism as well. He merely suggested that Dak did not show himself to be all-world and did not have a great game. Apparently, that is difficult for some people to accept.

Were there drops? Yes. Were there a ton of drops? No. You can't have 20 incompletions in a game and try and blame it all on the receivers and running game.

You can't blame a 5 ypa all on the receivers and running game.

Dak definitely started well (13-16 at one point), but he struggled a great deal as the game went on (12-29 after that point).

Overall, Dak did not play well. He did not stink up the joint, but that doesn't mean he played well. At least not unless you want to narrow the definition of "well" to how it applies only to rookie 4th round picks making their first start. The OP said you could say he was "okay" for the circumstances, he allowed for that, but there is nobody that should say he had even a solid game from starting NFL QB standards.

He didn't seem overwhelmed, and he didn't do anything that was really bad to just make you think the guy couldn't make it in the league, but he also didn't do anything really special to indicate that, yes this guy is the future. He may be, or he may not be. He should at least be a capable backup, however.

Dak did good and I think he would have been a lot better if he had some freedom.

I think he will do better next week.
