Of course not, the trick of a talented FO is to recognize an up and coming talents abilities and projecting that future contract because you know what you have now can be had at a substantial discount.
That's the question with Dak,,, was Dak so under payed during his rookie contract, and the FO failed to recognize his uber talent

Did the FO say, that's one hell of a 4th round draft pick that can never become a franchise type QB?
That's were the division lies on this entire Dak never ending drama.
I believe the latter, that this FO realized they bought some serious time to transition from Romo era,, and only cost them a 4th round pick.
Now Dak wants to make up those first 4 years with a blockbuster, history making top payed contract.
Both sides are having a very difficult time understanding how to make this work.

And that's not true at all and you know it,, Dallas has layed several proposals on the table, but Dak has chosen to listen to his agent that said just wait, don't sign it, there is going to be a lot more money if you just wait.
That whole prove my worth deal is really funny if you are looking at everything that has transpired objectionably.

Fair enough. I don't agree with not signing QBs just because they haven't won a Super Bowl but then again, I don't agree with signing QBs to record breaking deals when they haven't proven they can either. JMO

Let me ask a couple of questions. Do you think and/or agree that the contracts and market value of QB's goes up every year? Do you think it is right to compare the contract amounts and market values of QB's from previous year's smaller caps to current larger cap amounts. If you answered yes to the last question then you can't agree that contract amounts and market value go up every year. Most players coming off their rookie contracts get the amount they get based to 2 things. What they have already done and what the team feels strongly that they can do in the future. Unfortunately for the fans, what the fans think that QB has done or will be able to do doesn't enter into the contract negotiations. We may wish it does, but it doesn't.

I probably did flunk sandbox, cant say I ever spent much time in one,, and as I have always stated, waiting till you win a ring before you pay is always a detriment cap wise to a franchise.
Recognizing the talent before that happens and signing that player is a major bonus to a franchise.
Where does that leave Dak?
Don't confuse my stance on this situation with what others have beat the wall with.

Well, we all have to start somewhere with recognizing the real truth, and really none of us here will know until this contract is decided on, or not.

Why are you having such trouble keeping up? I said he deserved a raise to the rookie max after his rookie season. After his 3rd season, he was eligible for an extension but still didn't get it but he should have at least got a bonus at that time too. So that's twice they have failed to show some appreciation. I believe when they made him play through the full 4 years of his rookie contract, it was a sign to Dak of a lack of appreciation. They gave him lips service that he was their guy which is nice but what really counts is the money. I don't blame Dak for asking for the moon at this time.

You proved you have no knowledge of contracts in the NFL. There are no escalation clauses in rookie contracts. There is no way the Cowboys or any team can just raise contract amounts on a rookie contract after it's signed. They can't modify the rookie contract after the rookie season and are only able to extend their contract after the 3rd year. Now the Cowboys didn't force Prescott to play the entire 4th year on his rookie contract. In fact the cowboys just before week 1 last season made an offer that Prescott rejected and then told the Cowboys that he WOULD NOT negotiate during the season so he can concentrate on the game. Things may not be going as you want them to but what you think is the way it is, is very far from what things are in reality.
